The new 4 way stop on Buckingham Drive at Milner was put in place after many months of due diligence by the City of Albany Traffic Engineering Dept to assist in calming the consistently high volume and rate of speed of traffic on Buckingham Drive. Slowing traffic down and encouraging traffic to seek alternate routes will increase safety for everyone on Buckingham Drive and the neighboring streets. Traffic will certainly back up at times but overall this stop sign will increase safety. The offset intersection is not ideal but because Milner is just about half way between New Scotland and Route 85 it makes the most sense rather than Colonial (too close) and Ormond (to far) to properly effect the speed of traffic down Buckingham Drive.

Really??? Can we see the traffic survey??? What were the number of tickets issued for speeding?? Failure to yield to pedestrians?? How about a printout of the data from the mobile unit?? These signs will not increase safety, and do nothing more than placate a small group of residence, and inconvenience the greater. This answer is not satisfactory there was and is no need for these two new signs. Also the offset would legally cause those who must stop at the stop sign at Milner Av and turning east on Buckingham to stop again at the same "intersection", and you believe this to be safe?

If the eastbound sign were to be moved west of Milner Av, it would clear some of the issue...

I did not mean to close this issue and did not think I had the ability to do so and apologize for that.

I have been complaining to APD Traffic Safety for years about the speeding traffic on Buckingham. Speeding is a city wide issue and Traffic Safety does not have enough resources available to enforce speed limits on a consistent basis in any neighborhood. What we have is hit or miss enforcement and as a result speeding ticket data is not reliable. Bill Trudeau did not share with me the traffic survey data that they used to make the decision to place the stop sign at Milner. If you would like to discuss this issue directly I can prove to you that a majority of people in this neighborhood agree that these two stop signs are badly needed. We all pay a lot of taxes to live here and it is not right that we are assaulted with inconsiderate high volume and speeding traffic on a daily basis. The new stop signs should provide tremendous relief to this neighborhood.

That being said this is a big change and I fully expected the APD to be here today with lights on warning drivers. I can see that it is catching traffic off guard today. I reached out to Traffic Safety but do not know what their plans are for the rest of the week. I will follow up with them.

Four way stop signs at an offset intersection??? Very interesting!
If you are traveling east on Buckingham Drive toward N. Scotland Ave. and you stop for the stop sign at Milner Ave., you have already entered the intersection and are blocking vehicles on Milner Ave. who may be trying to turn left onto Buckingham. During high traffic hours, vehicles trying to turn left from Milner, will not be able to enter the intersection due to the high volume of traffic going east on Buckingham.

There needs to police enforcement of the new stop signs on Buckingham and Milner. Almost no one comes to a compete stop and many don't even slow down for the signs.
