Well we lost another life on Hwy 31 just this morning. This time it was at Kittrell and Hwy 31. A bus load of school kids were involved. The speed limit needs to be reduced immediately. Eventually the lanes need to widened and traffic lights put in at the intersection of Coleman Rd/ Henpecked Ln and Hwy 31. There is an accident or near accident weekly. Just about a year ago there was another fatality. Skid marks are all over the road from people having to stop suddenly and the rock haulers often slide off the road, not able to stop in enough time. There limited visability here and no turn lane. The speed limit is 55 and way too fast for such a populated area. I am fearful to stop and turn left here but I have to do it several times each day. Something needs to be done before someone else dies.

I travel through here daily, and I'll second the motion for a traffic light and/or a turn lane. This stretch of 31 is posted for 55 MPH, and southbound traffic approaching the 31/Henpeck Lane/Coleman Road intersection is coming over a steeply humped railroad overpass which severely limits sight distance. Northbound traffic has a similar, but less severe, problem due to a hill and curve. If nothing else, this intersection needs better caution signage, and TDOT might want to look at lowering the speed limit through here. Either of those things could be done fairly quickly at relatively little expense.

Nothing yet has been done to fix this issue. I asked the county to at least lower the speed limit or post a sign that says no Passing and I have not heard of any resloution at this point. HWY 31 is a a state road and Coleman/Henpecked are county roads and it will take alot to get a solution. I certainly hope another fatal accident doesnt occur before some changes are made. I have 12 famlity members who have to fight that intersection several time each day. Still hoping for a change.

Well another life was lost on Hwy 31 in the same area, on Dec 18th 2014. A young teenage girl has died from injuries sustained in an accident at hwy 31 and Coleman Rd. One young man is fighting for his life and the driver of the other vehicle is also injured. 2 days after the accident some intersection signs appeared in Hwy 31. Too bad they were 2 days late. I had asked for these signs 3 years ago. This is a start but is not a fix for the problem. We need a turn lane and until that happens we need some signs that state DO NOT PASS ON SHOLDER. My son turns 16 in three years and it's my goal to have some major fixes to this intersection done by then. I don’t want my kid to be the next fatality.
