The yield sign at the intersection of Granny White PIke and Shackleford Road is extremely problematic because the intersection occurs at a curve in Granny White. Here is a common occurence that is very dangerous: a north-bound vehicle on Granny White wants to turn left (west) on Shackleford Road. A south-bound vehicle on Granny White who is turning right onto Shackleford must yield to the north-bound vehicle (because of the yield sign). The south-bound traffic behind the yielding vehicle can continue to travel (because the yielding car is now in a short turn lane) BUT because of the curve they cannot see the left-turning vehicle. Therefore, they risk colliding with the north-bound car turning left onto Shackleford as they go around the curve. I have seen this played out too many times to count; people have to honk, slam on their brakes, or swerve off the road to avoid a collision. A yield sign in that location simply does not make sense and in fact is a very real danger.
