I saw one on Erie road and Lakeshore. Something needs to be done before someone gets hurt.

'Yotes are varmint. If all the "animals are cute" people would shut up, they wouldn't be a problem. They have no natural predators. I'm not saying to eradicate the species, but at least knock them back to the rural areas.

Three million people get bitten by domestic dogs every year. Just saying. A child is millions of times more likely to get attacked by a family pet than a coyote. Shouldn't we not be allowed to risk having a canine pet then too? If the "animals are cute" people need to shut up, then so do the "I need to pretend this is a bigger problem than it really is, and that it actually affects me in any way" people. And for the record, I don't think that having the opinion that "animals are cute" draws hoards of carnivores into our neighborhoods. But who knows.

Okay, 'Realist'. Don't think anyone will or will not dispute your statistics. I believe the intent of the original post is to make the community aware of the recent sightings. This is an area that isn't known for coyotes, and I think it is nice that the poster pointed it out. (Especially since halloween was approaching.) I live in Willowick and have 2 small dogs, I wasn't aware of a coyote problem. It's reassuring to know, I live in a community where others are taking a moment to inform their neighbors about an issue. I am glad this was brought to my attention.

Hmm..okay, Realist. I don't know if anyone will or will not believe your statistics. But, whatever. As far as your comment "I need to pretend this is a bigger problem than it really is...." goes, I don't think the original poster had any intention in making a big issue of it. The fact is, they spotted a coyote several times, in a community not known for them, and felt bringing awareness (esp. w/ Halloween approaching at the time) to the area would be a nice thing to do. I live in Willowick, have 2 small dogs, and was not aware of the coyote sightings. I am thankful I came across this map and saw the 'alert.' I think it was nice for the poster to take time to point out something that may affect their neighbors. Good old fashioned thoughtfulness helps make a community nice.

There are coyotes on Erie Road most mornings, have seen them on Lakeshore, also on Stevens. Anyone who thinks that this is not a problem is quite naiive. It is a large enough problem that there have been community meetings lead by a game warden. Coyotes ARE dangerous, can and will kill your pets and can harm your children. The coyotes are no longer afraid of people, and that makes the situation worse.
