A private college would be ideal in the old school on Clinton Ave., as well as the City B.O.E. building down the street. A college downtown would provide the boost of energy that downtown needs. The location is an ideal one for a prestigious private school. Student housing could be placed in the five points and downtown areas, eventually there could be a road of updated classical houses to house Twickenham University's Greek students. Additional facilities could be built through out the downtown and five points areas. The additional young population would bring revitalization and the population numbers downtown Huntsville needs to see a successful and vibrant downtown.

An interesting comment. The City has in the past attempted to woo some institutions Downtown, but it's far more challenging than merely locating one there. Land costs, the space and parking requirements, the proximity to the student population... Downtowns are certainly ideal college settings, but they take some time and effort (on the part of multiple players) to make happen.
For the record, Drake Tech has been expanding their footprint Downtown, and might help pave the way for other higher ed involvement.
Thanks for the comment! If you'd like to weigh in in more detail, please see the Imagine Huntsville forum (http://www.imaginehuntsville.com), a great place to discuss and advance issues of the day.
