They meant the turn signal at 70th and Adams, not 70th and Leighton.

It is the turn signal heading west from the north bound lane on 70th.

Got 'ya. Yeah, it's designed that way at most/all flashing yellow intersections now - giving left turners every chance they can get to clear out the left turn lane (also Google 'yellow trap traffic signal timing' -- this is an even better reason as to why). Advice nowadays with the new flashing yellows is to pay attention to the signal directly over your lane :) .

I am so confused by this. Good luck, city of Lincoln traffic. Simple logic says don't turn in front of a car coming the other way no matter . . .

Lincoln never really had any yellow traps with the doghouses (except for a very short time in the '90s, when it became a thing)... doghouses are the old five section turn signal lights that the four section flashing yellows are replacing all over the country. Flashing yellows try to eliminate T-bones as best they can, while helping improve traffic flow with left turns. Hope this helps a bit :) .

The operation you are describing is a lagging left turn for SB/EB. This operation can allow better left turn service and has been used in Lincoln for years. It does call to attention the importance of watching your own signal and not the adjacent ones. If a left turn signal is a flashing yellow arrow, the opposing through always has a green ball and the adjacent through signal is operating independently of the left turn signal. As far as this particular request, 70th & Leighton does not have flashing yellow arrows nor left turn signals of any other kind.
