Description
People drive too fast going down Hogan Rd. This summer I was crossing Hogan Rd. by the McDonald's entrance to walk to the Bangor Mall from one of the office buildings behind McDonald's and looked both ways crossing the first half of Hogan Rd. to the median and was just about to cross the second section on the other side when a car came speeding out of nowhere down Hogan Rd. and the car came six inches from hitting me, and then the guy acted like it was my fault that I almost got hit, despite the fact that he was going 45+ mph. There are no crosswalks or sidewalks along the whole stretch of Hogan Rd.

There are many cities that spend time making their shopping areas more pedestrian and bike friendly. Speeding is one thing, but the lack of cross walks and sidewalks is truly ridiculous in that area. Maybe if the structures were in place more people would walk, and maybe, just maybe, we would lose our status as the most overweight state in New England.
I have tried walked from the antibody shop by Best Buy, while waiting for my car to be fixed, to the Hannaford and then around to Goodwill. 80% of that route does not have a sidewalk. You have to walk on a muddy path, through a large parking lot, or on the side of the road the majority of the way. It would be very nice if that whole area were connected by sidewalks. Not everyone wants to drive 20 feet or risk being run over.
I am not suggesting the city spend a ton of money, but that when these places are being developed, they require more sidewalk coverage. Or when roads are being redone.
