Lucky for you, you were able to walk with your children (apparently at all times) when they were outside. I am a mother with MS and am often wheelchair bound. Therefore, I do not have the luxury of walking with my kids all the time. I am very responsible for my children, which is why I'd like to see a speed limit reduction on Buchert Rd. Cars ALWAYS exceed the 30mph limit here and treat the road as though it were not residential. Would you please let me know on what street and what year you raised you kids? Surely you realize there are more cars in more of a hurry "nowadays". Thank you for the lesson in how to discipline children, however I do hope that your kids have not inherited your judgmental attitude. We are anything but lazy. Go teach someone else a lesson, your smug advice is not needed here.

Route 663. The years I was raising my children in this home started in 1999. If you were wondering, yes I did work 40 hours a week. I was not a stay at home mom. I'm sorry to hear you have MS and often wheelchair bound. But yes, I was with my children at all times until they were old enough to understand what would happen if they went into the street. Most of the times they were in the yard which is fenced. I understand cars always exceed the speed limit. We also have cars that go over the 35mph speed limit. We have many speeding tractor trailers that are going at least 50mph and the police don't do anything about it. The traffic kept on getting heavier and heavier on rt.663 so I understand where you are coming from and yes, people are more in a hurry "nowadays". I'm sorry if I sounded harsh but where I live the parents (kids, probably to you and me) do not watch their childen! They run into the street all the time and the one child is maybe two or three years old and the others are between the ages of 4 and 7. My children are grown now and I can't sit out front because I'm afraid of one of the children getting hit. These parents DON'T WORK and can't watch their children.

Whether a car is going 25 MPH or 35 MPH, if one of your kids get hit they are going to be seriously injured or worse.

My kids are kept out of the street, but I appreciate the parenting advice anyway. Please don't assume I am not a protective parent just because I want cars to drive responsibly in a residential neighborhood. The intention for lowering the speed limit would be to give drivers more time to stop on the off chance that anyone or anything is suddenly in the street.

You are right about an impact at those speeds, potentially fatal either way. A little physics for you since you might not be thinking in this manner. A car going 35mph and jamming the breaks will need about TWICE the stopping distance (1.96 times to be precise) over a car going 25mph. So a 10mph difference in speed makes a big difference in stopping distance, which equates to more time for the driver to avoid something serious.
