The owners of 1039 S 6th St have been placing "food stations" in the front of their house as well as on League St (500 block between 5th & 6th) for a number of months now, many of which had been constructed from cereal boxes which did not last through a rain storm. In an effort to continue feeding the neighborhood strays (and whatever else decides to wander in), they installed a makeshift shelter. This "shelter" is chained to the side of their house, but sits on League St. It seems that these people are making NO attempt at catching and spay/neutering these cats, rather just feeding them. To date, there are approximately 7-9 different cats (2 new kittens) that frequent this small street. I have walked out of my front door on many occasions and noticed that my sidewalk had been used as a litter box. The shelter that these people have installed has done nothing but fostered the stray cat problem in the neighborhood, not to mention the potential to attract other less desirable creatures (i.e. rats, possums - both of which have made visits to the street in the past). This neighbor is known to be aggressive and abrasive and has not responded well in the past to similar concessions.

@concerned: why should people have to spend their time, energy and money trapping and neutering cats that are being sustained by some misguided idiot(s)?
They are being fed, so they survive, if they survive they have kittens, if they have kittens you have more cats...that then get fed, etc., etc.
You should be blaming the people who are feeding the cats and sustaining an artificial population of feral cats, not the people who don't like the fact that these people are doing it.

@EBW: Thank you for voicing the logical progression associated with this issue. I would venture to say that "concerned" does not live in the on this block of League...or the block of Fairhill St where I live and most likely doesn't have to deal with the cat situation (i.e. cat waste, etc. on the sidewalk and in the streets)
@Juliana....thank you for your information. I will certainly reach out to you regarding this issue. Before escalating much further, the neighbors have decided that we should approach the suspected owner of Chateau Cat to try and reason with them. I will follow up with an email to you with the outcome of this talk. I may also speak with you about another existing issue in the neighborhood - the uncovered manhole on Carpenter between 5th & 6th - which has been an ongoing issue and one that's been reported many times on this site.

QVFairhill: I got the drop on you! When I saw Ms. Reyes' message regarding this issue, I contacted her about the manhole. It's the perfect City Howl kind of thing. We are trying to find a good time to meet and discuss it next week. You should join us for that meeting (most likely after work hours)
