This issue has been acknowledged by the City of Brookhaven and is being investigated for resolution. Your service request ID is 1300202. Thanks for reporting and please check back here for additional updates about your issue.
Some notice of pending action would prevent duplicates.
Regular maintenance would prevent the issue being raised at all.
Issues scroll off the first few pages when they aren't addressed.
It's been a month with no notice of pending action and it's not the first or second time this path has been asked about in the last year.
The only maintenance it has received is by the group in Drew Valley some months ago.
Now it is impassable and the fence is smashed.
If it is indeed the goal of the city to create a walkable environment, there is a ready made trail here that connects two neighborhoods and the people that live in them and that trail needs maintenance to continue being an asset.
A request from the City Manager's Office was previously submitted to Public Works for an update on the status of this issue.
Please also know that SeeClickFix has an internal dashboard that the City Manager's Office utilizes to generate reports on open service requests (by department). These reports are now used to conduct audits on outstanding service requests older than 14 days old. Using this method, we have been able to reduce the backlog of outstanding Public Works service request from 444 down to 174 (over 60%).
Hopefully this clears up the misconception that because the service request may roll off the first few pages, they are lost in the system.
We are working hard to continue to clear out the backlog of service requests and appreciate your continued patience. We will take additional steps to notate open service requests with any pending actions so that users know what is taking place. Hopefully this will reduce the number of duplicate requests, which lead to delays in our overall resolution times.
It is the history of zero action on this issue for over a year, despite being raised multiple times since summer before last that creates the conception that it is lost to the system.
Thanks for your work to clear out other important backlogged service requests and the pending additional action of letting users know what is taking place.
I understand that setting up a maintenance schedule for things like this takes time (and a budget) but it's been left untended for a very long time already.
I hope to see action, or notification of pending action on this trail very soon as it is now unusable.
Yes to a degree. Other trees have fallen and crushed fencing has been replaced in the past.
But I'm not sure if it was DeKalb or the Drew Valley people that kept the trail mowed.
DeKalb once mowed down the entire wetland area resulting in a very visible sign that reads Do Not Mow Inside Fence.
I don't want that sign to be misinterpreted to mean do not mow the trail which is fenced on both sides.
The Public Works department is well aware of this issue. The problem is that this property is not owned by Brookhaven. This property is still owned by DeKalb County. We have in touch with Gordon Burkette as the Keep DeKalb Clean Director. We will continue to pass your comments along to him. DeKalb has been out to Drew Valley a few times this Summer to cut the grass in front of all of the detention pond however they continue to forget to move this area. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. The City will continue to work with DeKalb to fix this issue. Thank you for your patience.
I am confused and would appreciate clarification: the City doesn't own this piece of property but it is an integral part of the stormwater system, correct? The City is responsible for maintenance of stormwater isn't it? I thought the City uses DeKalb through some inter-governmental agreement to provide maintenance services because they have the equipment.
It's an easy fix. One quick pass with a walk behind mover/billy goat would make quick work of it. The county owns a fleet of them and could knock it out in 20 minutes.
