Description
In the first parking lot on Valley across from Blake Street Center there are about 6 black garbage bags dumped at the edge of the woods. Also a white bucket. Continuing a little farther down in parking lot is another bucket and remnants of a toilet that have been there for at least 2 months. Also coming down Valley towards Blake at last curve on right hand side is a large garbage bag.

Thank you students for your hard work.

I wish people would stop using their car windows as trash chutes, I pick up more trash on my street than I create in my home each week.

I saw the bags from the cleanup in the parking lot.
The other bags I am referring to are the ones across from the school entrance in the weeds and bushes on the curve- there are now several. Everyone keep there eyes open -someone is using this as their new dumping grounds.

Agreed this has become a frequent dumping ground. I think the weeds and debris all needs to be trimmed back and yes, the toilet remnants and other bags from the far end of the lot pulled out of there as well. We were not able to tackle the whole lot last weekend, unfortunately. That said, I am looking at another clean-up date, perhaps this time with Yale, in which case I will post the notice here so folks can in join if they like. Dr. Blume's office on Blake Street, whose patients use this lot, has been doing a series of clean-ups here as well, which is greatly appreciated. We will make sure to coordinate with them. I have a call in to LCI as well re: getting the lot owner to do some basic maintenance and clean-up here.
In terms of this becoming less of a dumping ground overall, I think immediate trimming and limbing everything back will help. Lighting might be another thing to look at, if it's sufficient in that specific area. Perhaps as early as this fall, in partnership with the City of New Haven, a series of 'short-term' traffic-calming improvements will be made on this stretch of Valley as well. One overall goal is to get folks to slow down, obviously, and to make the street more amenable to pedestrians and cyclists and the people who live on the street. One of the longer term goals is to establish a new sidewalk on the parking lot side of the street to connect all the way down to Emerson, again, with the idea of making it safer and more accessible for people to walk.
