Description

In early June, my mother took a fall in her apartment due to not have grab bars in her bathroom. I left my home in VA to help mom until she recovers. I reported to the Bridgeport Housing Authority, Fireside Apartment, manager that I was staying on the property temporarily and that I would keep them updated on when mom will be coming home. I have been in touch with the office from time to time to put in work orders for items needed for mom’s return home.
On August 2, I woke up and my car was gone. I found that the property management had my vehicle towed from the visitor parking area. Per the towing receipt, the reason for the tow was “out of state plates with no resident permit”.
There were no signs stating no parking between midnight and 6 am. No one advised me that I would have to park on the street during these hours. I had to pay $160 to retrieve my car. I was later given a resident parking sticker and now there are poles going up that I believe will warn of the hours for visitors to park.
So, they are expecting anyone visiting their family, including in-home health aids to park out on the street during the middle of the night in Bridgeport. What is the purpose to even provide visitor parking?
I would like to be reimbursed for the $160 towing fee that I was forced to pay. The original fee was $205 but after the manager from housing calling and asking for the fee to be waived, the towing company still insisted that they are a business and demanded their $160. Who lost the additional $40? I’m thankful that my car wasn’t stolen but this was so unnecessary. My mom has lived in this complex since 1996 and this was never a rule here before now. I should have been notified of this new rule prior to my car being towed.
