Trees offer many benefits, including cleaner air and cooling in extreme heat. The city needs a plan and policy for caring for our trees, and helping property owners to care for them, rather than just cutting them down randomly when they seem like an inconvenience. (A neighbor)
There is an Arboricultural Specifications plan for the city and we do not "randomly" cut trees down. There are criteria that must be met and our largest problem, aside from the loss of all of the ash trees due to the emerald ash borer infestation, is the large population of aging silver maples. This species is a poor choice as a street tree in most parkways and it is unfortunately the most prevalent. Trees that are slated to be removed must either be dead, dying, dangerous, or causing damage to property. We will not remove a healthy tree because it causes an inconvenience such as the property owner doesn't like to rake leaves.
We just wanted to let you know and we appreciate your concern for our urban forest. Thank you.
