The sign is still in the middle of the street as is the giant sinkhole/pothole, so I'm not sure why this item is marked as closed by City of Oakland Public Works. Will a small child have to be swallowed up by the sinkhole of a car's axle damaged to get this fixed?

You have to accept, Betsy, that PWD thinks that reading about your issue is the same resolving it.

To the defense of Public Works. The are faced with the monumental task of illegal dumping, what is it 425 million in street repairs that need to done, storm drains , sewers ect. I have had to reopen issue's also. I look at it as part of dealing with public works as a pro-bono employee. With our dysfunctional city leader ship and the SCF crew as boss's they get a lot done. If an issue is not fixed reopen it.

You need to remember, David, that PWD simply ignores most of these issues. I have seen some of them "reopened" six or eight times with no response whatsoever. They need to clean house - literally and figuratively.

I have been a registered user since 9-17-2012. I have currently been sent over 8200 notifications this only covers a small part of Oakland. So in my mind PWD is getting a lot done. Can they do better yes. Do I have high expectations yes when they are not doing there jobs to my expectations I call them on it as should all city residents.

My remarks were based on your stating that PWD ignores most of these issues. The bottom line is none should be reported closed until they truly are. I find that PWD and the City of Oakland leadership are reactive not proactive. Unfortunately even a change in leadership will not result in a quick house cleaning that does need to happen. SCF has become PWD's pro-bono babysitters and that is not a good thing. At least we have a tool SCF and a way to communicate try and make Oakland a better place even though it is kicking and screaming.

My worry about this particular sink hole is that without the tree work sign ( a hazard on its own in the middle of the street) the hole isn't visible. A motorcyclist or bicyclist could wind up dead from hitting the hole with their front wheel and being sent flying over their handle bars. I really do not want to hear about such an unnecessary accident reported on the evening news (TV or radio). The city has the opportunity to avoid the inevitable lawsuit that will result.
