ISD advises that they have no way of knowing whether a child under 6 years of age lives in the unit. Further, it is for the tenant to make a complaint. ISD cannot respond to a complaint filed by anyone other than the tenant.
That's interesting. I saw ISD come to the building to inspect the unit in question. They issued an inspection notice to me as one of the Trustees of the building - I'm glad they did as I had no idea about it. I gave them the owner's/landlord's name and address (emailed it to one of the inspectors, I can forward you the email, they told me they were going to request an inspection of the owner). A couple of weeks later a lead inspector was at the building. I'm not sure what happened but I can definitely tell you there is a child under 6 living there. I should know, I am a trustee and see/hear the child regularly come and go and was introduced to her and she told me she was two. As a trustee obviously I am concerned due to the possible ramifications of liability and our insurance will not cover us because we have no lead certificate on file. Lead poisoning and what lead does to a child is a very serious matter. If it is illegal in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, under Chapter 189 "Application of Chapter to Cities" of the Lead Law in this state, the city must comply with these laws as well.
