Description
Since the conversion to 2 way traffic, I have witnessed every day, cars turning LEFT off Eastbound Merrimack Street onto Northbound Bridge Street.
The stop light has a "NO TURNS" sign, but I don't think that is sufficient. I think there also needs to be one of those No Left Turn signs.
In addition, the green lights have arrows indicating that you can only drive straight ahead on eastbound Merrimack Street. Can I suggest that the red lights be changed to arrows as well? That might help remind people that that can only go straight.

I would say the 2-way conversion has been a disaster so far. I was really dreaming of this solving traffic issues in downtown, but this hasn't happened.
Backups I see every day:
- Traffic wanting to turn left onto Market from Central now backs up all going straight on Central St., since that lane is the only straight lane, and has to yield to those coming from Merrimack
- Market St. gets backed up at Central St. because there is no right turn on red, and on green traffic has to yield to pedestrians crossing Central
- Market St. traffic heading towards Dutton gets backed up by Leo Roy garage because anyone turning left into garage cannot be passed from the single lane
I've seen no improvements.
Oh, and when is the bump out by Brew'd Awakening getting finished? The roped off pile of bricks has there for how long? 2 weeks? Longer?

See the attached photo.
Maybe they can complete the work when the staging is dismantled at a future date.

Final entry for now .. One last observation I've now noticed .. the street marking on that section is done ..
Drivers can only go "Straight" through at that intersection.

One more note: Upon further research I found there was a street marking which was not painted ahead of the arrow.
The marking indicated in the Plan photo shows the directive word " ONLY " just ahead of the straight arrow.
Summary:
1] The Painted word "ONLY" is missing ahead of the Straight arrow now painted on the street.
2] The " No Left Turn " sign is missing on the Sidewalk.

Well, there is this:
http://www.lowellma.gov/dpd/Pages/Two-Way-Traffic.aspx
"Shattuck Street will be switched back to one-way traffic on Monday 9/15/14.
Left turns are now allowed from Merrimack Street onto Kirk Street and John Street, but still prohibited from Merrimack onto Bridge Street."
