This is not a localized issue, as we all know trash on our streets is a huge problem all over the city. I have a couple of simple solutions that would dramatically help our issue and make me proud to bring friends and relatives to our city:
Install more trash cans! How can we help without anyplace to put the trash on the street! Many neighborhoods have none at all.
Hold property owners accountable, which would eventually get passed down to their tenants. Sadly it seems we have repeat offenders that do not do their part in helping to keep our streets clean. Start imposing fines! Many people do not have pride in our city, this should get them motivated.
Lastly, it's a known fact that the parking enforcement leads the street sweepers, why not take the funds that are collected from those tickets and employ a small group that would follow the sweeper and pick up trash on the sidewalks (both sides!). In such a densely populated city using the street sweeper once every other week isn't cutting it.

Trash barrels are needed everywhere. I've opened tickets expressing my frustration with DPW and whomever does the POOR planning of placing the trash compactors. Case in Point:
Go to Broadway (between Third Street & Everett Ave), there are 2 sets of trash compactors AND a trash barrel in ONE TINY section of BROADWAY while the park down the street ONLY has ONE trash barrel.
Another Case in Point: Broadway @ Fourth Street. There is one trash compactor at the Bus stop AND another at the CVS. what kind of genius thinks that this is smart planning?

I couldn't agree more too. However, the issue is not more trash cans. Just look outside Tedeschi's in Bellingham Square. There are... FOUR trash cans within a 10 foot radius (just on that side of the street alone) and there's still trash on the ground. So people are just not using them. It's time for the CPD to start to heavily ticket for littering. I don't understand why the city doesn't do this since its costing the tax payers MORE money to street sweep and clean almost daily up and down broadway. How about we get some of our money back from the litterers and their mess they create by TICKETING them.
The city looks horrid because of this.. so trashy. And I won't even begin to talk about the rat problems that are caused by trash issues.

It's about time to have a city management that actually lives in Chelsea to understand how it feels to live in an open air dumpster(even when you pay taxes)
After 9 years as a resident and tax payer I can tell you for sure nothing will change unless changes happen at the top, remember the old saying? It starts from the top!
Why 9 years? Still at loss, property still 40k under.
Two advices:
- get used to it
- leave it
