Description
For years, vehicles wanting to go West on Marshall Ave have attempted to avoid the backup on Snelling/Marshall by cutting through our neighborhood. Vehicles turn West on Carroll Ave from Snelling, and then typically turn left on Herschel or Aldine to get to Marshall before the go West on Marshall.
These vehicles are more often than not going 30 mph on these three streets that border Aldine Park. I have watched countless cars cutting through encounter the "no entry/one way" sign on Aldine and Iglehart, and then go the wrong way regardless.
This has been a nightmare for our families for years. Aldine between Marshall and Iglehart only has a sidewalk on one side (which was poured with a huge slope so hardly anyone uses it anyway), and there is no sidewalk at all on Aldine between Iglehart and Carroll.
There are many many young children in out area who need to be safe.
Many children and families use this park, and walk down Aldine or Herschel to get here. What can we do to make the area safer?

Thanks--Yes, you are correct about vehicles traveling the wrong way down Aldine, usually during rush hour, but the issue is bigger than that--the issue is dozens and dozens of cars using a neighborhood that borders a well-used park as a "cut-through" in order to avoid traffic on Snelling. I'm thinking along the lines of asking for a traffic circle or speed bumps if this is a realistic option.
I will call non-emergency and advise them of the issue of the one way. My guess is that in order to get a truer picture of the larger issue, we may need to have those things that count vehicles as they drive over. Thanks for your quick response--now I'm going to go read the others because I had no idea I could read responses on the app :)

Thanks-I have lived here for twelve years and the cut-through traffic has always been an issue. It may be a bit worse now due to construction on Snelling. I remember when the streets were redone here about 7 or 8 years ago a neighbor had mentioned working on the issue, and I think the end result was we got bump-out curbs which haven't really helped.
I do think you're right that making that one block of Aldinr a one way like the rest of it may slow traffic down a bit, but when vehicles are using the area as a cut-through from Snelling, my experience is they use Herschel just as much as they use Aldine to get to Marshall.
The idea about making Aldine a one way may indeed provide a solution to slowing traffic on the Eastern border of Aldine Park--then we need to find solutions for slowing traffic on the North, South, and Western (Carroll, Iglehart, and Hershel) borders as well :)
Thanks for commenting :)
