Just yesterday, I was trying to exit the neighborhood via Barksdale Dr. onto Raleigh Blvd., a Raleigh city bus that was trying to turn in got stuck and completely blocked 4 lanes of traffic on Raleigh Blvd., because he was unable to turn into the neighborhood because of the parked cars.

And the three cars in my cluster were unable to move out of the way for him because of the parking along Raleigh Blvd. It took us 5 minutes to untangle the mess while the bus was at risk of an accident.

And on the nights when there is a party at the house at the corner of Barksdale Drive, I can barely get back into the neighborhood because of the cars parked (or trying to park) on that narrow strip of road prevent two way traffic.

When a set of cars is parked along this street, only one direction of traffic can use the road.

This situation would be much improved by "No Parking" signs along this section of street.

I agree that it is a dangerous intersection when the cars are parked so full along both sides of that intersection.

It would be fantastic if the signs could be installed before school starts on 8/25 when the daily traffic will increase too.

Unfortunately that is unlikely to happen, as all no-parking zones in the City have to be created by ordinance approved by the City Council. The staff generally does an evaluation first and then places a recommendation on the Council agenda. The Council only meets once in August, so their next meeting will be on September 6. Once the Council passes the ordinance the signs need to be fabricated and a crew sent out to install them. I will pass on to the Public Works staff your desire to have this issue addressed as soon as possible. We will see what we can do.

This is situation has been ongoing for several years and gets worse in the Summer. This house entertains frequently, resulting in a dozen cars or more parked along the street - often quite close to intersections. Combine this with buses needed to make wide turns and cars turning from higher speeds of Raleigh Blvd. into the neighborhood - I surprised there hasn't been a serious accident yet.

Problem is, this usually is a night and on the weekends when municipal agencies are less likely to monitor.

Perhaps they could be persuaded to park at the greenway lot on Crabtree and carpool to the house.

Should be a "no parking" area.

Thank you for taking the time to report this concern. A work order request has been submitted for no parking signs within twenty five (25) feet at the intersections of Raleigh Blvd and Rumson Road. In order to request an additional no parking zone along Barksdale Drive, a petition would need to be completed with a minimum of 75% of the affected property owners/residents agreeing with the proposed request. Once staff has received the completed petition, a recommendation will be made for consideration of city council approval.
