This appears to be an ongoing and growing trend that is out of control in the city of Ansonia.
C & H MANAGEMENT LLC needs to be held accountable through consistent mayoral and blight law oversight using one of Mr. Casetti's friendly letters to address this issue. I agree with the last poster above where letters of concern should also apply to our decrepit industrial properties in town.

Thanks for the updates. If we were to apply blight correction efforts to the decaying Peck School property it would only be fair through equality for the true Ansonia Tax payer to apply the same to the ultimate blight icon representing the foundation of the center of Ansonia. Massive blight can be found and seen by all on Main, East Main and North Main Street corners of the city within eyesight of our Ansonia Blight administration offices. I have not lived in town very long and noticed this immediately. This has been discussed exhaustively by several anonymous posters on this fix-it sight but is a non-priority for our environmental advocate Rep Gentile (go figure), Farrel and Pomini owners of part of the blight and hypocritical sponsors of the 125 year old city celebration. Someone mentioned, homeowner blight monitoring is child’s play when instituting infractions, Industrial and large sector blight is only for the talented to correct.

We need to step up blight enforcement city-wide. Peck School is in a residential neighborhood and is dragging down the values of the neighboring homes. It could have been re-sold a few years ago, but needs to be removed now. Don't know how, but pride of ownership needs to be regained. Clamping down on absentee owners, negligent taxpayers, zoning violators, etc. should be a priority of this administration. Attracting buyers to Ansonia is difficult. Remediating blight is a step in the right direction.

While I admit I'm a big complainer of blight have been for years. I would think it should be easy to at least keep the garbage in order there is an ordinance for that and many other issues that was passes and put into city ordinances maybe 12 to15 years ago Big enforcement of absentee landlords needs to be enforced clean up the garbage not only the garbage that sits on the curb all week some for weeks Aldo enforce the law that states garbage needs s place to be stored not seen from the street Aldo the excuses for the commercial buildings needs the same enforcement I'm tired of not only looking at it I'm also tired of hearing of deals made to let this unsightly mess alone maybe I can't afford to do mine anymore either or maybe I should say why should I pay to have my yard cleaned when my neighbors don't nor does the buildings downtown wonder if they pay any taxes on these buildings thstt just look disgusting. I understand times are tough and some truely just don't have the money to do some major work but if you own the property commercial or private it don't cost that much to pick up garbage or paint and clean up a little every month at least we would see an effort right now the disgusting unsightly buildings and houses throughout this tie are driving values down as badly as the foreclosed homes scattered throughout the town something needs to be done to clean up just go for a ride and look at the garbage left around it disgraceful its a lot of work and won't happen overnight but city officials need to work with this issues asap. Maybe the blight office can use a part timer to do follow ups on properties that are supposed to be getting resolved it would allow time for the full timer to go after new complaints be in his office and or court and also just have someone else to work on these issues to enforce what is already on the books for antiblight Time for some action. In closing I wonder if any alderman have complaints as mentioned in this sight I never hear of any..

I have to see the LAST thing Ansonia needs is yet MORE multi-family homes. Please, redevelop into SINGLE FAMILY homes.

That said, every Alderman in Ansonia should consider being on the e-mail list for updates from this site a MAJOR part of their job. This is where most complaints are filed. If they are not aware of this site or monitoring it at least weekly for problems in their ward, shame on them. It's 2014!

The city to voted to have this torn down 3 years ago, why hasn't it been done???

I myself thought this property was voted on and sold and if I remember correctly it was supposed to be torn down to build two two family homes. I may be wrong on number of houses to be built if anything it would be three houses built I dnt no what happened we def need a designated page for Ansonia in the valley inde sentinal I'm sure some money can't be found to pay for this page to much info is not reaching the entire town and also I'm thinking if we have a designated amt of space paid for the administration and alderman can answer us get us answers ect. Instead of hearing this page which I understand is not the cities designated page your asking the wrong people ect for answers I'm sure it can be an easy solution to keep all of us up to date in an easy way. It can also be used as reminder page for upcoming meetings and such we have the technology lets use it. Not everyone can go to meetings the city has and it would be a nice easier way to ask find out and file a complaint if needed. As far as the garbage I have said it for years with all the alderman who at some point get out and about the police public works and anyone else who work for the city this should be a resource in itself for these people to report garbage sitting out for to long and get the message to the right dept in the city the city also needs to start holding absentee landlords accountable for the property they own and use the existing laws and ordinances already in place to clean up some of these unsightly yards and sidewalks. Most of what is complained about here is already in city ordinances. And should be able to be found on the cities webpage after awhile just with the garbage that's thrown on the sidewalks or on the side of a house or garage it makes it embarrassing to have company. I have also seen my share of overflowing dumpsters at apartment buildings or a business the laws are there they just need to be enforced..

Some of those demanding the city demo the Peck School building may not realize it is privately owned. As an Ansonia taxpayer, I don't want my taxes being used to demo private property unless the city can recover those costs. Speaking of costs, whoever does the job will no doubt run into lead, asbestos, and who knows what else, and the cost of remediation for those toxic materials is expensive.

I agree that the taxpayers should not have to pay for the demolition of Peck School (even though they approved it years ago during the voting process), but it's a shame for the people living on this street to have to look at this every day. What happened to the blight policy that states the owner must upkeep the property or a lien will be placed on it. There is graffiti on the outside, windows broken, overgrown grass and brush and garbage on the property. Are we holding the owner accountable? I understand that there was a contract with the owner to demolish the building and replace with 2-3 multi family units, did the owner breach that contract? It seems that because the building is not visible to a majority of residents that the city is not addressing the problem. If YOU lived on the street, it would be a different story and you would want action.

Hmmm...no the taxpayers should not have to pay to demo the building, but yes, it is blighted. Based on the taxes owed (by the private owner) listed on city website, taxpayers are suffering for it. It shows NO TAXES PAID going back to 2009 (that's all the tax site goes back to.) Taxpayers did vote to demo it in the last referendum. The city should take it in lieu of back taxes and blight fines, demo it, and give the neighborhood taxpayers some peace of mind. Yes, I agree with the previous post, if it was your street it would be a different matter!
