Red painted curbs that used to be useful for sight lines at oncoming traffic are the new FREE parking spaces in our city. The more high speed and dangerous the merge or right turn onto a busy street, the more red curbed area full of parked cars there is. WEEKENDS and nights are full up here. There is little or no traffic enforcement in Oakland anymore. Perhaps we could post parking meters in the red zones to take advantage of types of people careless of others who use the red painted curb areas as their own private parking spaces. Key death trap locations would be on San Pablo the East side just South of Alcatraz. Anyone trying to turn left to head North on San Pablo takes their lives in their hands as the sightlines for the traffic there often going 50 MPH or more is blocked by those who have to go in for coffee at the old Bait Shop/ coffee bar. /// Up on Claremont in front of 5501 Claremont, the 40 plus foot long red curb for the sight line of traffic speeding by to get up on the 24 highway is obscured by three or more parked cars all the time. Today the 29th there were two large heavy duty trucks from some construction company blocking the sight lines there. Contractors are supposed to pay for street side parking and post notices ahead of time, not anymore it seems. Weekends are never good for that sight line area either. DO we have any traffic enforcement in our city anymore? They sure do not work the North end of town these days.
