It may not be apparent from the photo how bad a problem this is...because the fire hydrant is completely blocked by the tree! If RFD needed to use this hydrant, they would have a tough time accessing it. Tree needs to be trimmed so this hydrant can be used if it's needed.
Thank you for contacting the City of Richmond, Division of Property Maintenance Code Enforcement. We are sorry but in order for the department to proceed on this complaint; we will need your help in determining the correct location of the property in question. Please call our office at (804) 646-6398 so that we may assist you in this matter.
Honestly. You would think that the city's map of Greater Fulton just says "...and here there be dragons." It's the intersection of Bunn and Newman, as the report says. 3 minutes with Google Maps tells me the address is 1706 Newman Road. Also, Bunn and Newman...it's a T-intersection. The photo is pretty good. If anyone went out there, they'd find the problem immediately. In the meantime, of course, while we have this clearly super-necessary exchange about where the hydrant is, as a photo plus an intersection are somehow inadequate, the hydrant remains extremely difficult for firefighters to access--which I would think would make this issue a little more exciting to the city than it apparently is. Hopefully, the hydrant will not have to be put in use before this is actually resolved.
Thank you for contacting the Property Maintenance Code Enforcement Division for the City of Richmond. Based on the information you provided we have assigned a Code Enforcement Inspector to go to the location and inspect the property for any and all code violations.
The Property Maintenance Code Enforcement Inspector has indicated in the case file, that the reported issue(s) has/have been corrected to meet code regulations. Thank you for your patience in this matter.
The branches of this mulberry have been cut to the level of the top of the fire hydrant. Firemen can now see but still not use because stumps are blocking ability to remove hydrant caps PLUS this tree is still alive and will resprout branches before winter. It needs to be hacked at the roots and poisoned. I say this as a person who cares for safety and trees. In this case fire safety wins over trees.
Thank you for contacting the City of Richmond, Division of Property Maintenance Code Enforcement regarding the tree stump you would like removed. We are sorry, but Code Enforcement does not remove tree stumps and it is not considered a See Click Fix issue. It is not considered a violation under the code of the State of Virginia, nor is it listed in the Propriety Maintenance code of Virginia. You may wish to contact the City Arborist at (804)646-3799 to see if they can assist you in this matter.
