I posted these bike thefts for friends' bikes, will upload pics and model info if they have them. Just thought it was astounding that 2 separate friends on 2 separate streets had bikes stolen the same night.

Thanks for reporting this. I'd have to agree with David Streever that "urbanizing" your bike with a high-quality U-lock, special skewers, etc., is essential if you want to be able to leave it outdoors without getting stolen or picked over. A bike shop can help with this.
I've left my bike outside all over downtown for weeks on end, for the past 12+ years, without any problems. I wouldn't even think of doing that with only a cable lock - cable locks are really more of a convenience thing.

,mostly around the green, did you see the video of the petty thief with cutters sawing a cable lock in broad day light on Audubon street ? Many would be customers would gladly lend their cutters for a dirt cheap yet expensive bike from a drug addict.
i would also be careful locking it to any fixture or utility pipe on the side of a house , even if you u-lock it to the fixture they ,out of desperation and disrespect, would pull the pipe right down. Also always check the street sign's nuts and bolts at the bottom , make sure they are bent over or very very rusted so the thief does not just unscrew them and throw the sign on the ground, and off with your transportation
