Traffic control is very low priority for Ansonia PD.

Word.....ValleyG, your correct, the beautification of this town keeps the rents cheep. If they were to fix up all the ugly & empty commercial buildings and industrial buildings that would put me and my family back into Bridgeport. To many people there. A friend at HUD tells me this is town is a perfect match physically & financially for assisted living. Fixing anything would be a big draw back. The speed-bump idea would trash my lowered suspension which I invested 1000s for. Who's goin to pay for the damages to that?

Your point about ignored stop signs is well taken. I know of a few (some mentioned here before) that drivers coast through also.

If an island were to be put in the middle of the road that caused a driver to hit and damage their car or, even worse, be injured even if they were speeding the chances they would sue the city for their inquiries are very high.

Speed bumps can also be a problem. Your best solutions are:

1. Ask the Police Department to have an officer stationed there a few times in a hidden spot. Word should get around after a bunch of tickets are given to stop for that sign.

2. You could get a petition signed by those on your street asking for the speed bumps, but this petition would need to be presented to the city council.

There are some options, but it's going to take formal requests and not just from one resident.

Just as in Derby, about fifteen years ago, when two small children were almost killed at Eight and Smith streets, it took that before a four way stop was installed.

I am in Westport all of the time and they have speed bumps on some of their roads and I haven't heard of any issues.

Speed bumps are not allowed on most public roads. The majority of the neighborhoods in Westport & Fairfield with speed bumps are privately-owned, or at least privately maintained through a levy on the residents; usually through an association.

Maybe the police dept can re-assign the ones hanging around at O'Brien Tech and the Baptist church over the past year or so... apparently rolling through stop signs on the Hilltop is a big issue for them... :-(
