Standard Parking Garage Shatters Quality of Life in LA Neighborhood
The banging and crashing constantly heard by neighbors of the garage sounds like gun shots -- but is actually vehicles driving over broken grates covering building joints throughout the parking garage structure.
The banging can be heard 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and can be heard on the roof of our 20-story building!
Why doesn't Standard Parking fix these grates? Good question.
The Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety ordered them to fix the grates, which are in serious disrepair, more than 5 months ago! And, although the Vice President of Operations for Standard Parking, Pete N. Thorson promised a fix in early June, 2009, to date, nothing's been done to fix the problem and comply with Building and Safety.
Their excuse: "We are trying to figure out how to best remedy the problem." Though, according to the Building and Safety inspector I spoke with in early May, Standard Parking's building engineer was told by Building and Safety exactly how to fix the problem.

Hi Arun, I did a couple of things. First, I wrote a letter of complaint to my building's management. Then I contacted my Councilmember's office to ask for their help with this problem. I contacted an investigative reporter at one of the network-owned television stations and he became interested in the story (though he never actually filed the story).
Then I sent an email to the executive staff and board of Standard Parking (that's called an EECB - Executive Email Carpet Bomb) alerting them to the problem.
I posted an audio file on YouTube of the noise which caught Standard Parking's attention.
Finally, I called and emailed the head of operations for Standard Parking. He seemed most concerned about the YouTube posting.
If you're dealing with Standard Parking as well, I'll happily give you their contact info and the contact info for the investigative reporter.
Best,
Alan
