PPG stopped operations for the holiday weekend on Friday evening. An additional site check was performed earlier this morning and nothing was observed. An industrial type odor was observed on Oakleigh at the bridge but did not appear to be emanating from PPG based on the site check, location and wind direction.

Well if PPG claims they weren’t operating that’s a full fledge lie and I have witness. I have guests staying here and Saturday morning the smell was obnoxious. Since there seems to be some lying going on, maybe the news and more need to be involved .

Apologies Sunday morning the smell was obnoxious. My quest was here Saturday evening through Sunday late morning. We both smelled it inside my house and outside.

The fire department received the complaint today and dispatched a unit today.

What about yesterday morning? I called the emergency line in front of my guests and the lady said fire department would come check it out but I never heard back anything..

Please if you could also explain what the fire department can do about it?

If you called the emergency number and the fire department was dispatched, I assure you that a unit responded. We don't normally respond to callers unless they request it. In response to your question about what the fire can do, when we respond we are generally investigating for a fire or smoke in the area.

Good morning. I called as you requested. That was 8:30 am this morning Thursday 8/9/21. The lady had no idea what I was talking about. She put me on hold and another lady got on the phone. She asked me what do I think the fire department can or will do? I explained I’m following what I was told by East Point. She said the fire department cannot do anything and she was sorry about that. We had further discussion about it and it’s location etc

So after hearing this, now what? I’m calling on The City if East Point. Are you going to take care of getting rid of the toxic air that comes into our houses, is outside on food we eat and the air we breathe 24/7, is two blocks from Tri Cities High school where kids breathe it in daily? Do you care about any of the residents of EP? Or just money in your pockets? I’m calling a spade a spade. I’m putting East Point on notice that from this day forward The City of East Point Ga is fully responsible for any effects that these toxic fumes , now or in the near or far future, cause any physical or psychological damage to any of East Point residents. This includes but is not limited to, students and their families , or any guests staying in the City of East Point, Ga along with permanent residents .

Standing on corner of Oakleigh Randall and Wadley and fumes are full force in the air. Called 911. Seems like a waste of resources since the lady told me there’s nothing they can do..

Before Melissa Echevarria left, the protocol was to call the non emergency number for the fire department. I don’t know why this has suddenly changed.

Are reports to the EPA being made?

I know that residents can make complaints to the EPA but the city should be doing it, too.

I just met with the Fire Department and multiple police officers that were sent out. I was informed that I, along with the neighborhood association and residence should call the EPA.

To make note the fireman who came out requested my address..

The East Point Fire Department has made a report to the EPA concerning this matter.

Andrea - is it possible that PPG can still accept a delivery of materials even when the actual operations have been stopped?
