Correction - this stretch of road is not part of the Rehabilitation Program. That being said, a temporary fix has been applied and a permanent fix will be applied in the summer.
The road in this entire area is in terrible shape, curbs crumbling, heaves all over. It should be part of the Rehabilitation Program. Residents are having to report issues with this road year after year. Why does the city wait until summer to begin road repairs? The roads have been free of snow and ice for quite sometime now. It only makes sense that if work is begun earlier, there would be time for more repairs.
We can certainly pass along your concerns to our Engineering Department. Engineering plans and oversees large road projects.
To answer your question, the reason we have to wait until summer is for a couple reasons:
1) plants that produce product that can be used in the appropriate temperatures of +5 and above typically open May Long Weekend and this hot mix is a more permanent fix for asphalt repair. Temperature plays a huge role in the viability of permanent repairs and this is why you will see lots of road work and busyness around cities and towns up North during the summer months.
2) We have an extensive summer repair program and much of this work is planned in advance as locates have to be ordered and the areas need to be prepared (back hoe would be required to dig this spot out first for example). This process can take some time. That all being said, this issue will be slotted into our current summer maintenance plan and a temporary fix has been applied until that time.

Thank you for the reply and explanation. Just an FYI, they came out today to do a temp fix on this spot and left shortly after 1 pm. The repair they did was very temporary though as the first vehicle that drove through it left a deep rut so the fix was for naught. The crew hasn't been back yet and I'm posting this at 2:45 pm
It was the road crew themselves who drove through the fix and caused the rut. Not sure what the point of a cold fix is if it's so temporary that the crew doing the work are the ones who wrecked it. If it didn't take the first time, why would it the second time and how much money does it cost to have them continually come out to fix it? Seems counter productive.
