Description
The ramp off of Tilden at this intersection makes crossing this intersection a lot less kid friendly. There is no pedestrian light here and no light for the traffic using this off ramp, but you have to cross it to reach the little island where a pedestrian can actually signal for a crossing light. Likewise when crossing Tilden on Broadway heading toward Buena Vista, a pedestrian could reasonably assume they have the right of way to safely cross this little section as well, but in reality cars might not be looking for them - especially if they are short children. Eventhough it's only 5 blocks from my house to my son's Aikido class - a distance he regularly walks on his own in Alameda - I can't let him go on his own because of this interesection and the one at Broadway and Clement (which is listed separately as an issue as well).

Thank you for reporting your concerns about street safety in Alameda. Your report will help inform the City of Alameda’s work to achieve our Vision Zero goal of eliminating traffic fatalities and severe injuries. We will use street safety reports, including yours, in combination with crash data and equity indicators to prioritize and design street safety investments. This evaluation will generally happen on an annual basis, with some exceptions for clear and pressing trends. Issues that the City deems to be immediate safety concerns will be elevated for quick action.
