Description
It is increasingly difficult to turn onto or cross Mountain Hwy when travelling on Dempsey Road, especially since Braemar went through and since there are more mountain bikers'/tenants' cars parked on Mtn Hwy these days. Visibility from the lower side of Dempsey is especially poor, and even at the best of times with all the fast traffic hurtling down the hill, maving your move is often a dicey proposition (made worse by the fact that there are usually cars on the other side of Dempsey, also trying to get onto Mountain Hwy, so you have people turning left across your path while you're both trying to zip out in a timely fashion). I know of at least one recent bad accident there and can only imagine there have been more. Please, is it time for a four-way stop/roundabout?

I am not sure what can be done about the intersection, but I agree, it is a dangerous intersection. I have found it very difficult to get a good visual while attempting to turn left while east bound on Dempsey to turn north bound on to Mountain Highway. I have often been "hooted at" because I am according to some people taking too long. If only drivers could be more patient it would avoid a lot of accidents.
Adding to the difficulty is the confusion that some drivers falsely believe that if two people arrive at the same time a two-way stop, that the person arriving at the intersection first has the "right of way". This is incorrect. It is the driver going straight through through the intersection, for example driving from east to west or west to east across Mtn. Highway, that has the right of way, not the person who arrives "first". Go to: http://www.icbc.com/driver-licensing/Getting-licensed/drivers4.pdf for more information on intersection safety.
Owing to the extra traffic on the Braemar Connector and the added traffic from the mountain bikers I think it would be a very good thing for someone from the District to evaluate this intersection for safety.
