You seem quite passionate about commercial vehicles. I realize that these vehicles are an important cog our economy, from the local to the national level. Yes, they do pay more for registration and inspection fees, but compared to an individual car, commercial vehicles are on the road longer and put a greater wear on the roads. Granted, there are more private passenger vehicles, but the owners pay their share of fees and tolls as well.

I can honestly say that I do not know when the last accident involving a large commercial vehicle was on Park Avenue. I can only relate when I was in an accident with one. On 11/5/09, a fully loaded cement mixer rear-ended my car. The truck driver was distracted by the traffic coming down Eagleville Rd and looked up to see me stopped, waiting to make a left turn on Crawford. He applied his brakes but still hit me with an incredible force. The collision shattered my rear window and 'totaled' my car. To this day, I still have headaches from post concussive syndrome. Main St, Trooper Road & Egypt Road are much wider and can accommodate the larger vehicles. There are other streets in the area that have a "no thru trucks" sign posted. Would having one on Park Ave really cause that much an inconvenience to you?

As to the points that you make regarding people texting, talking, etc., I am in agreement that they are a problem to all drivers, both commercial and private passenger. I would gladly support a hands free bill that would make these distractions a primary offense (that is, they can be pulled over is spotted). Unfortunately, our state senators killed such a bill last year.

Well, first of all I am sorry to hear of your accident and the suffering you are still experiencing. I grew up on South Park very close to this intersection and know all about the accident history there. If I had one dollar for every time I have heard the skidding tires and subsequent contact I would be rich. But I have to say the commercial vehicles are not the biggest problem--one of the primary causes of accidents there--and I used to see it ALL the time--is people pulling out from Eagleville, with a vehicle approaching on Park--then stopping right away to make the left onto Crawford. When it is wet there is no way for that vehicle on Park to get stopped and then they crash.
By restricting commercial vehicles all that happens is that they now are on another adjacent road and now that road will have the problem.

Thank you very much for your well wishes! I have seen that traffic pattern that you described. Do you think there is way to allow the people going from Eagleville to Park to Crawford (and vice versa) safely and without tying up traffic on Park Ave?

It has been suggested that a traffic light be installed there but that would only create many more instances where a car headed south on Park would come upon stopped traffic at the Eagleville Rd intersection. The only plan I have ever heard which initially sounds crazy but in reality would work would be to elevate Eagleville Road approaching Park for traffic wanting to continue on Crawford (creating a bridge) and have it merge onto Crawford once past Park. Leave Park the way it is and traffic on Park headed to Egypt Road would continue on and the traffic on Eagleville wanting to go onto Crawford would be able to go over it. Traffic on Eagleville wanting to turn right or left onto Park could use the existing roadway. But you and I both know this won't happen anytime soon! There is a good chance that a traffic signal will be going in on Egypt at Pinetown soon, so the best bet if that happens would be go down Pinetown to Egypt if you are headed that way and avoid this intersection, and if you want to get to Egypt but want to go east take Sunnyside to Ridge and make the right and avoid that Park/Eagleville intersection and get to Egypt Road at Main Street in West Norriton

A bridge may work, but might be on the pricey side for the amount of traffic that Park Avenue gets.

If a traffic light was installed, a sign warning drivers of "Red Signal Ahead" could be placed at the same spot where an ineffective sign currently reads "Watch for stopped traffic". These signs are connected to the traffic light and the word "Red" is flashing in color when appropriate. I have seen these installed at other high incident intersections, giving the drivers notice that they need to slow down. The blinking of the light might be a better alternative to the sound of screeching tires and mangled metal.

You are correct regarding the advance lighted sign "Red Signal Ahead" but in my opinion, unfortunately the configuration of this intersection would cause many more crashes there even with this sign in place. When the road is wet and a vehicle pulls out of Eagleville onto Park, then stops right away to make the left onto Crawford, any vehicle traveling in this direction on Park is forced to stop at the bottom or that short hill and the less they are paying attention, combined with the larger the vehicle and a wet or icy road condition, increases the chance that they can't get stopped in time. Don't forget that the vehicle pulling out of Eagleville sometimes is really at fault, pulling out in front of the Park Avenue vehicle and then suddenly stopping to make that damn left. And you might be surprised at the volume Park Avenue carries, but don't be looking for any bridges there anytime soon, that just ain't gonna happen---too many $$$ involved and the environmentalists will have a field day with going through the currently wooded area.

Would a No Left Turn on Crawford solve the accident problem?

Unfortunately, no regarding restricting the left from Crawford. By law, that is only allowed if there is an alternate left capability nearby and that does not exist in this area.
