Very bad eye sore plus no telling what's living in this jungle. I'd hate to be a neighbor it's really creepy just walking by it. Just two days ago I seen a rather big animal like a opossum or raccoon type animal running along the house please do something about it. It's been like this for long time.

Community Development has issued notices for violations of the City of Huntsville's Code of Ordinances to the responsible party of the property.

Community Development has taken the appropriate action to alleviate this issue. Please be advised that there is no ordinance requiring the cutting or trimming of bushes, shrubs, vines, trees, etc.

The grass and weed ordinance allows a 14 day time frame for cutting. This applys to grass/weeds only, not trees, shrubs, bushes, vines, etc.

We appreciate the photo. The inspector was physically at the property for an inspection. The notice does require the responsible party of the property to cut any grass/weeds that are over 8 inches in height. Again, there is no ordinance with reference to the tirmming of shrubs, trees, vines, bushes, kudzu, bamboo or ornamental growth.

I've contacted a local news station asking if they'd like to run a story on this issue. Below is the email I sent them:

The notice does require the responsible party of the property to cut any GRASS/WEEDS that are over 8 inches in height. There is NO ordinance with reference to the TRIMMING of shrubs, trees, vines, bushes, kudzu, bamboo or ornamental growth.

Animals and homeless people have lived in the house recently and the grass has grown so high you it obscures the view of the house from the street. It's unacceptable. Nothing has changed from the attached pic. If you cannot help me further, point out another entity to whom I could carry my concerns? I also volunteer to clean up the yard if allowed. Thanks for the photo, but this is a tree, not grass or weeds. As stated in the previous emails, the city of Huntsville does not have any ordinances that pertain to the trimming of trees, shrubs, vines, ornamentals, etc. It may be better if you called this office and spoke with the inspector assigned to this area. I would like to say that I think the property should be cleaned up also. The animals are a problem and it is a nuisance for the surrounding properties. Although the photos are not of grass or weeds specifically, the growth of "plants" surrounding the home have completely taken over. I think it is unsafe and attracts wildlife from the nearby drainage system. I think it should be re-opened, or at least the owners should be contacted. I would also be curious to know the condition of the inside of the property. The structure cannot be holding up well from the looks of the outside. Thank you.

True. We live on the earth and not in a fantasy land. However, what 'they' can do is speak about the issue with respect and work to solve the problem, understanding that due to inaction on their part and home owner's:
- grass and weeds have grown so high they've turned into shrubs

We have been in verbal contact with the owner of the property. The owner did advise that the truck on the property belongs to a grandson. The grass/weeds that are in violation of the grass ordinance will be cut. Again, there is no ordinance that requires the cutting or trimming of trees, shrubs, bushes or ornamentals.

As of 4-15-14, this issue is not fixed. Reopening this issue. I can't really speak at this time to whether we've an issue with the definition of 'trees, shrubs, bushes, ornamentals' since no work has been done to the property. And I am a little concerned about folks staying in a house with a raccoon and possum / general wildlife infestation. Thank you, eastArborResident 4-15-14

Wow! East Arbor Resident- I would be livid if I were you! HCD keeps closing this issue, when clearly it is not resolved. This is making your property value go down. I understand that their hands may be tied with their own regulations, but this has to be a hazard to residents. Looks like a snake nest waiting to happen. Is the property abandoned? Can the neighborhood not get a petition for them to clean up their property? There has to be something someone can do- since it seems like HCD is trying to just close the issue! Good Luck EAR!

The property is currently primarily occupied by various wildlife; raccoon/possums. However, per HCD's comment on 4-15-14, the property owner's 'grandson' also resides there occasionally amongst the various wildlife.

I have spoken with adjacent property owners, and a petition has been mentioned. However, it has not yet been circulated.

As of 5-2-14 this issue has not been resolved. No action has been taken at the property. The grass has not been cut yet this year. Weeds, bamboo, and brush in the front and back yard are of such height they block the view of the house from the street including the back yard. Animals have also taken residence in the house.
