I haven't heard the burning rubber yet but am very worried about the speeding on our street. Many young children and pets live on this street and the cars fly by you in a blur when you are outside. It is really out of hand.
kilyht what do you mean by "What can this site do?" isn't it doing something right now? Aren't we having a discussion about an issue? Don't think anybody expects this site to come to life and just take care of things. Ms. Doe I do agree with you about the speed of vehicles on our street. Especially on Main Street where I walk my dogs. BTW kilyht I'm sure the cops wil love it every time I call them when the kids across the street are hanging around in the street and ripping shots in the driveway.
This site can help. That's why I signed up and get email alerts from it. While the police don't report to the Council, they are very responsive to issues we may raise. I will look into this with the Chief and hopefully they can do something for you.
I am in total agreement that there are many issues which appear to be out of hand at the moment. Desperate times have a lot to do with it. I was a former business owner on Center Street who saw many things that angered me which I did report and got very little response from the Wallingford Police Department. But as soon as my fire alarm went off (accidentally I might add), they were right there telling me I would be charged for any more 'false alarms'... I watched one night as I was crossing the street from my shop, a car was turning into the street I was crossing, followed closely by another car which almost CUT the first car off the road... The car who did the cutting was beeping it's horn at the poor driver who was IN FRONT OF HER properly turning into the street. As I looked, I see a Wallingford Police officer directly behind the girl who was not only practially cutting someone off the road, while beeping her horn (completely out of line), but it turns out, she was ON THE CELL PHONE TO BOOT!!! A police officer right there... behind her... did absolutely nothing! He drove on while I was motioning to him that the girl was on the cell phone (while I was pointing to the car!)... he looked at me and never even pulled over to see what I was trying to communicate to him! A complete JOKE!! Wallingford's finest, and oh so responsive, NOT!
Unfortunately the police will not really do anything if you call them. A solution has to be sought in the political realm. The local politicians have to be scared into doing something about this problem hopefully BEFORE a tragedy occurs.
Well if the Wallingford Town Council stops eliminating police officers maybe we will get better response. They have eliminated 6 positions in the last year. 6 Positions on a understaffed police department.
That is not accurate. The Town Council has not eliminated any positions in the Police Dept. The Mayor has set the wage budget so that the 2 currently open positions will not be filled. The Chief, who reports to the Mayor, not the Council, is responsible for filling the positions and keeping them filled. I disagree we are understaffed, however the Town Council is not responsible for the levels.

I know, call the cops. What can this site do, set up a camera system that is sound activated and fine the kids $100 for each swear or burn out?
Call the police.
