Roundabout is working GREAT for the intersection BUT it is working So well that it is causing severe backups @ every intersection around it. The lights need to be timed longer at these other intersections to allow more cars through.▶Inilagay sa Artsibo
ALSO the traffic on hamlin and livernois backs up sometimes ALL THE WAY to the roundabout and this happens EVERY DAY with 7:30 - 9:00 am traffic AND, even worse from 4:30 - 6:30 pm
Good luck with that. All of the lights at the intersections in Rochester Hills are controlled by FAST TRAC, or as I prefer to call it SLOW TRAC. Cameras and computers that think they are smarter than people who know how traffic works. I've complained about it for a decade but the OCRC declares it a huge success. The only result I've noticed is that it guarantees that you will stop at every intersection with a red light.
The problem is not the FAST-TRAC traffic signals. They are operating at optimum efficiency. The problem is there is just too much traffic for the roads. Many of these roads should be widened to accomodate the traffic present, but there is not funding to widen most of them. There is nothing that could be done to the traffic signals that would eliminate the massive congestion that clogs the roads at rush hour every day. In fact, if you took the FAST-TRAC signals out (and replaced them with traditional fixed-time signals that do not adjust to best accomodate the traffic present), the situation would be even worse. No traffic signal can reduce the amount of traffic using the roads.
I don't believe widening the roads will cure the traffic problem, all that's gonna do over time is bring more and more traffic and make it worse, a lot of the problems with these round-a-bouts are the lack of people knowing how to use them, and also the way that the round-a-bout traffic at Livernois and Hamlin is routed through the lanes is not safe, I have seen a lot of close calls because of the lane set-ups, the way its setup, the right lane can go straight or right, the left lane can go straight or left, so if someone is lets say traveling south on Livernois in the left lane and decides to go straight and someone is heading east on Hamlin in the right lane and decides they are going straight there is a good chance of a collision, the right lane needs to be restricted to right turn only to avoid this, I don't know why someone hasn't figured this out, the next time you go through this intersection you will see what I'm talking about.
