Hello, Our records show that 87 Pine St has a copper water service in the street, and lead on the private portion. If you would like for us to visit your property to (confirm) look at the water pipe material coming into the property let me know (Gary 781-397-7040 or leadinfo@cityofmalden.org ) & we will make an appointment. Below is my standard response with info. on having the water tested.
Thank you for your response to the information you received from the City of Malden regarding the potential for elevated lead levels in drinking water. It is important to understand that the water source and the water mains that distribute the water contain no lead and therefore do not have elevated lead levels. In older properties, typically built prior to the 1980’s, the water pipe to the property or the components of a properties water system may contain lead.
To participate in the water test that the city is offering please pick up a water sample bottle, which has instructions at Malden City Hall, 17 Pleasant St., 2nd floor Engineering Office. Hours: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday from 8 am – 4 pm. Tuesday 8 am – 7 pm. This water test will determine the lead level in the water, the test is free of charge.
Please note that the water sample needs to be collected when the water has had no use for approx. 6 hours, typically first use in the morning. If you live in a multi-family property this could be difficult to achieve.
