Area to capture issues relating to the Massachusetts Turnpike.
River St Cambridge, MA - Cambridgeport
Drivers are continually swerving into the wrong lanes at this intersection because the lane markings are unclear.
Left lane: Some seem to believe this is a left-turn only lane.
Middle lane: Some do not bump right when cross Memorial Drive and instead veer into the left lane, possibly because of the "left lane" comment above. Other times, people turn left from the middle lane, cutting off people in the left lane who are continuing straight.
Right lane: Designated as a right turn only lane, but this is not clear as many drivers continue straight when in this lane.
There are no signs to help drivers understand which lanes have which rules, nor are there any signs indicating that the road they are approaching is Memorial Drive. This is a junction that many out-of-towners first approach when coming off the Mass Pike and it must be incredibly confusing for them.
The lane markings can be improved and start further back, perhaps toward the middle of the bridge.
Some signs need to be added, again perhaps need the middle or even beginning of the bridge, which will be helpful during times of busy traffic.
Sheridan St Chicopee Mass - Chicopee
Trailer trucks and 4 wheeled vehicles drive unsafely fast from fuller road to WESTOVER civilian businesses. One 35 mph sign is hard to notice on right placed after west bound pike overpass. People I talk to are disgusted about the 18 wheelers especially speeding on Sheridan st. Need more signs to remind it is 35 mph both ways on Sheridan. I have noticed bread 18 wheelers are biggest speeders to and from Bimbo bread warehouse on Sheridan st.
255 Washington St Newton, MA 02458, USA - Newton
There should be a sign indicating which lanes are for left turns, which are for going straight, etc... I constantly see accidents due to cars trying to go straight onto Centre St from the lanes that are for turning onto the mass pike only
120 Woodland Dr Framingham, Massachusetts - Framingham
At the service plaza on the Westbound side of the Mass Pike, in between exits 12 and 13, there is a yellow gate in the back. This is presumably used by authorized personnel only.
However, recently I have noticed a substantial uptick in cars simply "cutting through" this area to avoid traffic and/or avoid paying a toll. This has resulted in increased traffic in the Woodland Rd/Audrea Rd/Florita Rd neighborhood. Often times this is late at night and neighbors of this quiet area aren't happy with the uptick in unauthorized use of that cut through.
Who's jurisdiction is this, can the gate be closed and locked aside from official use, and what can be done to enforce this? Thank you!
Charlesgate East & Commonwealth Avenue Boston, MA 02215, USA - Back Bay
A large pothole has opened up on the Charlesgate overpass above the Turnpike. The pothole is located on the roadway headed towards Storrow Drive from Boylston Street/Fenway. It is on the main deck just before the off-ramp to Comm. Ave.
This shoulder here along Charlesgate should also be cleaned. Glass, chunks of concrete, and a broken palette create hazardous conditions for bikers. Please don't wait until spring to fix these issues!
Cambridge Street & Interstate 90 Boston, MA 02134, USA - Allston-Brighton
As the two Pike exits merge together and then again merge onto Cambridge St, there are no signs indicating the merges. The new bike lane further complicated things as it is unclear whether the lane shifts or ends where the bike lane begins. In at least two places, lanes simply end. Signs warning of the merge / indicating right of way / displaying merged lane patterns are arguably a necessity for avoiding future accidents. Additionally, re-painting of the road lines is sorely needed (this should have been done when the bike lane was added, which itself already needs re-painting in many areas). Overall this whole area from merging off of the Pike exits, thru the first couple stop lights after that on Cambridge St, is very poorly marked for cars and bikes alike.
Eastbound In The Right Lane On The Massachusetts Turnpike Between The Entrance To The Prudential Tunnel And The Copley Square Exit. - Back Bay
Very dangerous driving in the right lane on the Mass Pike going east just after entering the Prudential tunnel. Some drivers are swerving to avoid the rough surface/potholes creating hazardous driving conditions.
