Resident concerned about drug usage in Edgewood Park and prostitution in area nearby.

Who changes the lights on the WOOD poles in Edgewood park when the Park's Dept. says it is the city light bulb person's responsibility and he says the pole numbers don't exist and UI says call the city of New Haven and your Alderperson can't help either??? How many city officials does it take to change a light bulb?

Things lookin a little shaggy at Edgewood Park

Please be on the look out for 10 adult tricycles that were stolen from Coogan Pavilion 1/13 after thieves broke into two storage areas. These tricycles were used by Parks for senior programs. Please call NHPD if spotted. The theft has been called in to NHPD and Parks is aware and working to re-secure Coogan.

Walking inside Edgewood park near the duck pond, two small boys ride by on quad ATVs escorted by an adult on foot. These are these very same quads that are housed at 364 Edgewood avenue. Fortuitously, there was a new haven police patrol car parked at the corner of Edgewood and Ella t Grasso. We told officer Vernon what we saw. His response was very disheartening... He said there was basically nothing he could do. That If he chased them and they got hurt he would get sued personally (this can't be true). And when we told him where the quads come from (364 Edgewood) and asked if they could wait and catch them as they came home, he basically shrugged that suggestion off saying it was not possible. We suggested a bike patrol inside the park to deter and possibly detain these criminals, to which officer Vernon replied "I don't have a bike".

While we were having this conversation three other masked men on dirt bikes ride by with impunity, breaking serval traffic laws in plain sight of the impudent new haven police patrolman.

All of this gives little hope of any real action on the ATV and dirt bike menace.

What can be done now?

Other weekends, potential drugs deals happening in the parking lots near tennis courts. Usually mornings.

Police, please patrol the park better. Neighbors, be on the lookout so our park can be safe.

Would it be possible to get the big floodlight at Coogan pavilion turned on so that we can skateboard at night?

Cop parked blocking the bike lane (again). Lots of safe parking nearby, this needs to stop happening.

lley and West Rock is covered in broken glass from liquor bottles. Gazebo and shrubs surrounding it are covered in trash from late night parties. This area needs to be cleaned up and this corner of the park needs to the monitor Ed by police at night, lots of illegal activity going on here every night. Park is supposed to be closed at sunset right?
