midway between high st. and college st., students are constantly streaming across the street. my belief is that students will always take the most direct path across regardless of the crosswalk at york. another crosswalk would be ignored here, as drivers already speed through the light at york.
any chance yale could build a simple pedestrian crossing above the street? i bet there are plenty of local architects who would jump at the chance.

The amount of speeding and red light running at this intersection is obscene.
Cars are speeding past at rush hour more than 20 MPH above the limit, amidst crowds of pedestrians and other vehicles. The red light signal is not obeyed.
It is only a matter of time before a driver loses control and kills or injures several people, as has happened recently at similar intersections (like Crown & College). The very poor pedestrian visibility at the corners, inadequate lighting, and use of line crosswalks rather than the more effective zebra-style crosswalks, only makes matters worse.
Can some police enforcement be added here as a temporary fix, up until the time that the intersection can be rebuilt to a higher standard? Is it even possible to stop red light runners here?
Ultimately, the intersection should be redesigned, like many in other US cities have been, so that travel at more than 15 miles per hour becomes uncommon. I've posted details on similar issues in New Haven about how raised and tabled intersections have been widely used in cities like Boulder, Cambridge Massachusetts, etc.. They have been proven to be extremely effective - not to mention much more cost-efficient than regular police enforcement.
Given that this is in the heart of campus, if Yale University is serious about making sure that students, staff and faculty are not continuing to get injured and killed every year, it should consider pushing the city for a redesign as soon as possible.
195-199 Elm St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Downtown
Elm street between Braodway and the Green is regularly blocked by Yale deliveries. Today it was down to one lane with THREE POLICE OFFICERS standing on the corner WATCHING, when asked to do something they said what can we do ?? There must be a solution- if it can be kept to obstrubting one lane it seems ALMOST acceptable. This has been occuring for years.

Bradley St. is a primary connector for pedestrians traveling from the Orange and State St. neighborhoods to the Yale campus and Downtown New Haven. People cross here illegally every day, rather than going the longer route of crossing down at Trumbull St. As a side bonus, a crosswalk might also be a nice traffic calming device on such a high speed corridor as Whitney Ave.
Chapel St New Haven, CT - Downtown
The construction work on the Yale Museum of Art is almost complete. To my dismay, there are no street trees being replanted where there used to be several good-sized trees. Why wouldn't Yale replace the trees they removed? It detracts from the street, sidewalk, and building and exposes the long benches to full sun where it was once so nice to stop in the shade.
Canner St New Haven, CT - Prospect Hill
Going west on Canner St., when you turn left (or south) to go to Yale Divinity School (the entrance between Loomis and Prospect streets), the pavement from the road to the sidewalk to the access road/parking lot is very uneven. Unless you go incredibly slow, your car bottoms out and the pavement scrapes the bottom of your car. The danger in avoiding bottoming out by going really slow is that it's near the top of the hill, and you can't see cars that might be coming downhill (headed east on Canner) too well, and you don't want to get caught in the middle of a creeping turn while someone comes barreling over the hill. I don't know if this is a New Haven issue or a Yale Divinity School issue (I assume YDS) but it would be great if the incline from Canner, over the sidewalk, and up to the YDS access road here could be leveled/ smoothed out. I just had to pay $500 to fix a hole in my car's flex pipe and I am pretty sure that this was the cause of it.

I have a suggestion for the Yale Bikeshare program. I am a professor who commutes to New Haven on the train. I'd love to have a bike share pod at the New Haven train station or the State Street station that would speed my trip from the station to the campus and back. Right now, sometimes I just haul a scooter along with me, which is fun, too, but I'd rather share a bike.

I think one of the biggest problems is j walking within the Yale Community especially with the students. They just walk right in front of your car expecting you to come to a screeching halt. I think the Yale Police and New Haven Police should start giving these children tickets. They even look at you funny when you don't stop; even a couple of comments. I even seen them yell at a police officer and give him the finger when the student was clearly wrong; the cop went around the block to find the inconsiderate girl but could not.

I sometimes work at one of the Yale buildings, 301 Prospect Street, and often I've seen a New Haven police cruiser idling in the parking for hours at a time--sometimes all day. Today the car was running, the window was open, and the officer was napping.
90-98 Trumbull St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Yale University Campus
The YALE HEALTH SERVICES facility (on the corner of Hillhouse and Trumbull) handles a multitude of patients on any given day, yet they have a tiny parking lot for a handful of cars. Hillhouse Ave. has very few parking spaces available at any one time and most of those have reserved bags on the meter. There are a few parking spaces adjacent to the YALE lot (on Trumbull) where injured and ill patients frequently park. Every Friday at 4:00 sharp, City Tow Trucks (laying in wait) immediatlely begin towing patient vehicles. Patients who legally park at 3:00 or so (who get delayed in the long lines awaiting medical services and medications) have their vehicles towed without further warning. Elderly and handicapped people have returned to their space, only to find their cars missing. There is no indication as to the location of the towed vehicle. People who are ill, and in some cases can hardly walk, find themselves without transportation or the $80 to regain their vehicle. There have not been any signs posted in public view (to advise patients) and there is no grace period beyond the posted 4:00. Patients who have waited an hour or more for medical attention are forced to choose between aborting their treatment or losing their car. There is no visible reason for this weekly 4:00 ritual but the impact on these patients far outweighs any benefit to the City. The tow trucks swarm in like "shooting fish in a barrel". The western end of Trumbull Street has not been busy on Fridays due to the bridge cinstruction in the area. It appears to be a convenient means of generating revenue at the cost of those who can least afford the money or the inconvenience. Why hasn't the Mayor or Yale Health Services or the Traffic Control Dept. worked together for a solution other than simply waiting for the new Health Services faclity to be completed some day. There have been a lot of tears shed at that location by those who have enough pain in their lives.
