  • 25-39 Skiff Street Hamden, Connecticut - Hamden_Feature 001
My car was hit and the policeman said the fault was the timing of the intersection traffic light. The light heading towards cheshire on Route 10 does not allow enough time for the left hand turn cars to clear before turning green. Indeed, during rush hour traffic, often drivers heading towards New Haven on Route 10, who use the left hand turn to cross onto Skiff street, watch as the light turns yellow while they are stuck in the middle of the intersection. The policeman said that the timing is set by the state and so there is nothing we can do about it. Is this true? It is needlessly unsafe and I imagine an inquiry into traffic accidents at the site will suggest that timing is a serious issue. Its infuriating and dangerous that I drove under a green light, that turned yellow as I sat in the rush hour queue, and then someone zoomed forward at the ill-timed green light nicking the back of my car as I tried to clear the intersection.

A left hand turn signal for vehicles making a left when coming down chapel towards Church street would be exceedingly helpful. The corner sees a lot of traffic and it is almost impossible to turn unless you are first in queue and make a dash for the turn before the vehicles come up chapel street towards the green. I face this turn every day and its always a game of chicken.
