Create a live, train/educate, play corridor that will attract medical personnel for training and internships. All of which will boost economic development with the need for places to live, eat and play.
The city has a great thing going with the UAB Huntsville Regional Medical Campus on Governors Drive which offers a “community-based clinical education program for junior and senior medical students in the University of Alabama School of Medicine. Through its full two-year curriculum, Huntsville provides all required and elective clinical experience necessary for completion of the M.D. degree.” Also: ”Huntsville's clinical component has been planned from the outset as a community-based program, including in its educational program the physicians, professional personnel, and clinical facilities already established in the area. Physicians and other health professionals throughout North Alabama work with the Huntsville campus faculty to plan and teach the undergraduate and Family Practice resident programs.” Why can’t this be built upon and expanded down Governors Drive west of the Parkway? There was talk about it years ago and it has the potential to grow into a regional hub that will greatly impact our economy. The medical field covers a lot of territory and there could be training for everything from physicians and nurses to lab technicians to all medical support personnel! The area that is ripe for redevelopment and large enough to house such an endeavor is west of the Parkway from where Butler Terrace is up the hill to the interstate. It is on the northern side of Governors Drive back to Holmes Avenue or at least where Hall Street and the old Stone Middle School is located but basically all of the frontage on west Governors on the north side of the street. The cancer treatment center is already along this path, just take it from there and head east up to the Parkway.

Our "Downtown" is too small and we do not have a "Central Business District." You want to revitalize Downtown Huntsville? Expand! Butler Terrace needs to go away! Expand downtown by building a real central business district where Butler Terrace sits today. Live, work and play space right at the VBC’s back door along this corridor equals: a pedestrian friendly environment and removes the blight that is there today. This is the logical choice and must happen or anything to help downtown will be for naught! If this area is not fixed then it will continue to drag down the rest of the downtown area. Parking would be no problem in such an area nor would building heights and density. Constellation is coming along nicely, we need to go WEST! Where is the plan for a streetscape along West Clinton and West Governors Drive?

This location once housed a grocery store. We would love a Publix Market or any decent grocery store but any business redevelopment would be great!

This is the former Winn Dixie site known as Cross Roads Shopping Center. The Kroger on Drake Avenue needs some competition. This old Winn Dixie was not closed due to a lack of patrons; it was a nationwide corporate decision to close stores in Huntsville. We would love to see a small Publix Market here. We are tired of driving all the way down Whitesburg Drive or across Monte Sano Mountain to shop at Publix. This is the perfect location for a grocery store!
