Gravel used to mulch tree in front of 1612 16th St. NW. Prohibited by Public Realm Design Manual (The use of gravel as a ground cover is prohibited (DCMR 24-109.10)). Tree seems to struggle during dry periods as well and has been improperly pruned - stubs left when branches were removed.

  • 1353-1499 New Hampshire Avenue Northwest Washington, District of Columbia - Golden Triangle Improvement District

Cars turning into Dupont Circle from New Hampshire routinely pull into the bike lane. There's only one automobile lane, but the street is wide enough for two, but it's poorly marked, so drivers seem to think that they can create a second lane beyond the parked cars on New Hampshire.

Cars are routinely blocking the bike lane, but I witnessed a near-collision this morning when a postal police vehicle swerved into the bike lane a few feet in front of a cyclist, forcing the cyclist to swerve into the car lane in traffic to avoid hitting the postal police vehicle.

This area needs better marking/signage to keep vehicles in a single lane going into the circle. Enforcement should be stepped up, too. (The cars are stopped at the light, so an unmounted police officer could handle enforcement.)

  • 900-998 20th Street Northwest Washington, District of Columbia - Golden Triangle Improvement District
Contractor vehicle is parked in center lane, and left lane is already blocked due to construction, choking down 20th from three travel lanes to one. This was causing heavy congestion on 20th all the way to E Street at 0845.
  • 3 Dupont Circle Northwest Washington, District of Columbia - Dupont Circle
Please increase parking enforcement on the section of Dupont Circle between P and New Hampshire on the southwest side of the roundabout. Cars routinely park here, obstructing a travel lane and causing traffic to back up onto Connecticut and on the north side of the circle.

Couldn't find another more appropriate category, but the rose bushes and crape myrtles on the north side of this intersection are a serious obstruction to visibility for cars at the stop sign on 33d. I have a hard time seeing traffic coming downhill (southbound) on Wisconsin, and I've seen several near misses from cars ahead of me on 33d. I don't have a "live" image, but I attached a screenshot from Google that shows the issue pretty well.
  • 1520 22nd Street Northwest Washington, District of Columbia - Dupont Circle
I couldn't find a more appropriate category for this, but I wanted to report a semi that was turning around in the park area by the Taras Shevchenko statue on 22d St NW on 28 Dec 15. The truck was blocking traffic in both directions and was driving directly through the grass, leaving ruts and knocking over at least one small tree. I took a shaky video of it (I was driving at the time), but I didn't get the plate on the truck.

Vehicles routinely park in no parking area on corner, north side of W Pl at Wisconsin. Causes visibility issues for traffic and obstructs traffic for cars turning off of Wisconsin when there is opposing traffic on W Pl.

Didn't take a picture, but I noticed that there's an illegally parked vehicle there in the Google Street View image.

  • 2130 Washington Circle Northwest Washington, District of Columbia - Foggy Bottom
I've noticed this every time I've driven New Hampshire northbound through Washington Circle: circle traffic at 23d on the south of the circle is stopped by a light and backs up all the way to/past the New Hampshire intersection. Without some very aggressive and seemingly illegal maneuvers, northbound traffic on New Hampshire winds up limited to maybe one car being able to enter the circle for every two light cycles. The problem would probably clear if the circle's light at 23d stayed green about five seconds longer, after the circle's light at New Hampshire goes red, to allow the circle to clear before New Hampshire traffic is allowed in.
  • 1610 New Hampshire Avenue Northwest Washington, District of Columbia - Dupont Circle

street sweeping sign should be replaced with a "no parking" sign: This space is illegal, since any car parked here will be within about 10' on both ends from the intersections, but placing a street sweeping sign here implies that it's a legal space - just not during street sweeping times. (More telling is that DC issues parking tickets to cars in this space. My fiancée was ticketed here and denied her adjudication request because of the misleading signage, and we have a neighbor with the same experience.)

If this is a legal space, it needs paint markings or signage indicating as such so that DC will stop issuing tickets here. If it is to continue to be considered illegal, a no parking sign should go up in lieu of the street sweeping sign to make it clear that parking is never allowed there.

I've attached an image (screenshot from Google Maps) showing the sign. Note that there was a vehicle (supposedly illegally) parked in the spot when the Google car drove by.

  • 1710 Park Rd Nw Washington, District of Columbia - Mount Pleasant
A median routing sign is installed on wrong side of post on Park. (I saw this two months ago and just thought to report it, so I can't verify that it's still wrong. The images are screen grabs from Google Street View.) The sign should apparently point toward eastbound traffic, but it points toward westbound traffic and is misleading for those drivers - makes it look like they're only allowed to go right at the fork in Park.
  • 4101 Canal Road Northwest Washington, District of Columbia - The Palisades
Not sure exactly what category to place this under, but I've noticed many westbound cars using the left lane on Canal Rd. during the two-way to one-way transition period. Better signage is needed to inform drivers of when lanes are available (lighted arrows would be ideal), but enforcement would help in the meanwhile. (The vehicles using the lane appeared to be regular commuters - contractor vehicles and cars with District garage stickers, all with VA and MD plates.) Not sure it's an immediate safety issue - not sure if any vehicles could use the lane in the opposite direction, but I could imagine some front-end collisions if there was a conflict.
