  • Treadwell Street Hamden, CT 06514, USA - Hamden

    12/18/14
Some new maintenance work appears to be in progress at this site, below the overpass structure. I do not know if this work will decrease meaningfully, the risk of bridge failure. That is only known to official safety inspectors. At least something is being done. We will continue to watch the Treadwell site for progress.

    ORIGINALLY REPORTED 4/11/14.
At least seven months since first reporting, and no repairs have been done. Are traffic barriers and netting the best New Haven County, or Hamden officials can do?

Bridges fail. Roadways fail. I know this is a sizable project, but responsive city officials take pre emptive action on these projects before they get worse.

Large tree has fallen across the canal path blocking foot and bike traffic.
  • Dixwell And Lee Streets Hamden, Connecticut - Hamden

More dumping of household trash, furniture and plumbing in plain view on the Home Depot parking lot in Hamden.

Hamden seems to be a magnet for illegal dumpers. Whether it is the Farmington Canal Path, private dumpsters, or here next door. Its hard to get away from. Other towns successfully capture illegal activity with cameras. Why can't we?

UPDATE: Originally posted on 7/17/14, it is now 11/16/14, and this household garbage remains as an eyesore sitting behind the Home Depot parking lot in Hamden four months later. What is it that keeps this trash from being taken away? Whether its the town of Hamden, Home Depot, or another property owner of the parking lot grounds, will someone please grow up, take responsibility and spend the relatively small amount off money to take this garbage away.

There's a lot of illegal dumping around here, but that doesn't mean the town shouldn't care about moving it out of public view and disposing it.

Its been four months, Hamden. Someone in Town Hall should be embarrassed by this. Do something!

    ILLEGAL DUMPING IN HAMDEN
This location is off the Farmington Canal path just off Haig St. in Hamden. This area has been collecting trash and illegal dump waste for many months. It is a disgraceful eyesore, and unacceptable to live with for the residents of Hamden. It is especially bad to have this pile of trash continue to stay and/or accumulate on a spot in direct view of users of the Farmington path who walk and cycle here hopefully seeking a respite from the less attractive views and noise of Dixwell Avenue.

This area needs to be patrolled, or kept under surveillance, either by closed circuit cameras, police drive bys late at night, or at the very least, cordoned off with heavy barricades to prevent vehicles from simply driving down the hill and dropping their tailgates.

The town of Hamden needs to clean up this mess and keep it from happening again. Our residents deserve this.

The rebuilding of the road and supportive structures over and below this bridge need attention before something bad and preventable happens first. Nothing has been done for over a year. This is unacceptable.

The temporary netting attached below is the first sign of serious problems. On the sides, exposed steel reinforcement is clearly visible. In some cases, the steel is rusted bent and/or detached. All of the visible damages are major violations for bridges around the country. Often leading to final warnings or complete closures. In the very least, the path directly below the bridge, and the bridge roadway above, should be closed until repairs are done.

  • Farmington Canal Bike Path At Mather Street Hamden, CT - Hamden
Large graffiti spray painted on fence alongside bike path. There are spray paint cans on the other side of the fence, if Forensics has an interest in analyzing for fingerprints. But the graffiti needs to be removed, or painted over, in any case.
