I have been meaning to write this for some time, a letter to the Hamden Mayor and one to the CT governor . I am sure that most of the comments regarding COVID and now masks are negative, but I am proud to be a member of the Quinnipiac community, the Hamden community and a CT resident regarding the handling of COVID. Quinnipiac was one of the first school to transition to online and do what was needed to keep us safe. Hamden took matters very seriously and called and texted and updated us residents. And Lamont also enforced what was needed and helped keep us safe. I am sure that the mayor Lang and Gov. Lamont got a lot of flack, but I am glad that they took this seriously and hope that they continue to do what is safe even if there are some outspoken people against that. We have had "no shoes no shirt no service" for as long as I can remember, adding no mask over your nose and mouth no entry will save lives and help the economy. I read reports of some businesses not abiding (the workers) or not enforcing (the customers) -- but there are many businesses that are going above and Beyond. Perhaps Hamden and CT could start a website or forum where people could report SAFE businesses, kind of like the dpt of health rates C, B A etc but let the residents rate just the A's and that would allow people to choose wisely which businesses to support (and peer pressure the other businesses without publically calling them out). The nextdoor app has a few threads where people;e can report businesses going above and beyond to keep everyone safe.

There was a woman standing in the heat today (it's like 90 with heat index of 97) looking catatonic and not well. My husband called the non-emergency number and received attitude for reporting it. I thought that we were a "see something say something" society. From what I gather she is known to the police, but he did not know that, and she looked like she needed help. Why can't their response be "thank you for reporting this" which would encourage people to "see something say something". What if no one called and she died or what if she had been raped and needed help. I have also encountered this attitude when reporting a tractor trailer on Rt 15. And yet the bus that was carrying the HS students on a similar road in long island no one called and there were severe injuries and TBI. I understand that the call center must be inundated, but what would a simple "thank you for reporting this" cost? We do want people to "see something say something", correct?

    Dear Braeside Neighbors,

Our yard was recently vandalized – we are reaching out to ask each and every one of you to please place some kind of a "Hate has NO home Here" or Kindness Matters sign in YOUR yard. Let’s everyone see that the Braeside community embraces kindness and has no place for hate.

Make a sign, have your kids write it in chalk on the driveways and roads, and/or purchase a sign via Amazon, Etsy, CafePress, etc.

We believe that we are all human beings and good neighbors who do look out for each other. We would love to see some anti-hate neighborhood messages!

We are saddened to report that we had vandals recently at our home at 60 Braeside. They destroyed and/or removed lawn signs on our property, in our yard -- signs embracing philosophies of Science is Real, Kindness Matters, Embrace Diversity, etc.

We are saddened because we live on a dead-end street, so it might be someone that we know.

We are saddened because we live in America, where freedom of speech is a fundamental part of our very existence.

We are also saddened, as we live in a country where we can be anything, but above all we should be KIND.

We are also saddened, because, the only thing for evil to prevail, is for good people to do nothing.

    Warm and healthy regards,
    Lisa and Tom
