Speed Bump Request ArchivedAlewife Station Access Road Cambridge, Massachusetts - North CambridgeThis morning one of the two Yates Pond swans was killed on the Alewife Station Access Road. Drivers, after being stuck in the traffic jam which is the Route 2 eastbound offramp have tunnel vision impatience to get to the Alewife Station and Cambridge Park Drive garages. The pedestrian crosswalk barely slows many of them down. It's only a matter of time before a pedestrian is hit. The Alewife Reservation is on both sides of the Access Road. The swan that was killed this morning was not the first wildlife death on this road. The only thing that will slow drivers down to the speed limit is a couple of speed bumps.

Traffic Sign Complaint Archived15-17 Harvey Street Cambridge, Massachusetts - North CambridgeThere is a sign on Cedar Street at the intersection of Harvey and Cedar Streets that reads "No Truck Over 2 1/2 Tons." The "fine print" of the regualtion the sign refers to if I understand it correctly, is "unless making a local delivery. Since no large trucks are using our neighborhood streets as a shortcut to the Mass Pike I find the sign odd, to say the least. As a result of the sign large trucks, use Harvey Street to access the Fresh Pond malls and the housing construction site on Rindge Ave. When the trucks get to the end of Harvey St they find they can't make the turn onto Clifton St. They have to back all the way back to Cedar St., usually escorted by a Cambridge police officer. This happens several times a year. To my knowledge, no car has been hit, but it just a matter of time before that happens. There is a sign on Concord Ave at Chilton St that reads, "No Tractor Trailer Access to Garden St." Could a similar sign be installed at the top of Harvey Street? If not that, Harvey St needs a sign like the one on Clifton St.

Disappearing Bike Lane Archived2067 Massachusetts Avenue Cambridge, Massachusetts - North CambridgeAcross from the north bond left turn lane next to the Elephant Walk Restaurant at Hadley Street the bike lane disappears in a section of Mass. Ave that gets a lot of bike traffic. There are several sections of Mass. Ave where the island has been removed and replaced with a double solid yellow line. Please remove the concrete island next to the left turn lane so that the missing bike lane section can be restored.
