    On the aviation bike way near 4th Ave. If a rider hits this with road tires at moderate speed, he or she is going down hard. Potentially serious injuries could be a consequence. I am sure the city is well insured, but this design screams negligence and incompetence.

    The bollards at the 4th Ave end of the aviation (Hoff Ave) have a defective and very dangerous locking system. When the bollards are removed there is a piece of steel that is approximately 1 1/2 inch square sticking straight up into the bike path exit. Whenever the bollards are removed the piece of steel is as dangerous as the steel spikes that have been showing up on manhole covers. The design is the same at any of the bollards I have seen including the ones near the Santa Cruz path near downtown. (Broadway I think)
