Yet another City of Oakland single space meter has a jacked up coin slot. Change slips in but won't drop down, so no time is granted on the meter. And the coin is suspended in the slot, so there is no way for anyone else to use cash w/o jamming the meter. So annoying!

I am beyond annoyed. Like tons of other single-space meters in Oakland, the coin slot on PI-4060 is jammed with one or more quarters--you can see the top one sitting there--and so it will not accept coins to register time.

Okay, so to be a good citizen, I decided to pay with a credit card. For the $0.50 minimum charge, it only gave me 13 minutes of time, not 15 minutes! Last time I checked, I deserve a quarter of an hour when I pay 25% of the $2/hour rate. Such a rip-off!

It is bad enough that you make me pay $0.50 on a credit card if I only need $0.25 worth of time to run in and grab a coffee. But now I don't even get the full value I paid?? Aaargh!

  • 5384 Manila Oakland, California - Shafter

Individual meter head at MN-5384 takes coins in the slot, but the coin does not drop all of the way down, so it won't register any time for the coin deposited. And no additional coins can be added, because the first coin is sitting there taking up space.

I cannot remember the last time I fed in a coin to an Oakland meter and actually received time for my money. It is starting to feel like a conspiracy. Please fix these meters--Oakland needs the revenue!

Yet another parking meter in Oakland does not accept coins! In this case, the coin slot seems free of obstructions, but multiple quarters did not register time on the meter heads.
This problem seems more and more common. It's hard not to be cynical that the City does this on purpose to either (1) generate more parking tickets or (2) force credit card transactions that have higher minimum charges. Not fair for citizens who don't have a card payment option.
  • 4000 Piedmont Ave. Oakland, California - Piedmont Avenue

The parking pay station in front of Piedmont Grocery is printing receipts in a very strange way, as if the paper is out of sync. The receipts are incomplete, and the limited transaction data shown appear to be incorrect.

As you can see in the attached image, I purchased parking at 5:42pm for a period of 18 minutes (up to 6:00pm). This area is $2/hour, so I paid $0.60, but the dollar amount shown under "Keep this portion" is 1.25. A payment of $1.25 is enough for 37 minutes. Moreover, I paid with a credit card, and there is no "C" to indicate this as usual. I suspect this data is actually from the previous payment made at this pay station before mine, while my data is missing. Unfortunately, this receipt is not an accurate record of my transaction.

My receipt is also smaller than normal; it does not have the usual perforation and the tear-off stub on the right side, so perhaps the cutter is also malfunctioning?

I hope this can be fixed soon.
