Yes, truly amazing, the removed bench is sitting like an eye sore next to the other one. This looks like it would have taken some effort for this vandalism. I wonder if any business in Hilton had a street webcam or better yet one of the churches that invites the homeless into the area. Maybe outdoor webcams should be a forced requirement for organizations offering free services. They shouldn't be allowed to turn anyone away because they "lock" their doors because someone is late getting in. If I wanted this crap I would move downtown.

Amazing the city has zoning laws but not for this. The Main Street library is a stop of place for the homeless to nap while waiting for the free services. If these church's want to provide this fine but the city needs to zone for it. If nothing else one designated building where these churches can share the space, switch out staff. These churches are located right in neighborhoods, near schools, library. The city would stop me from building a 7-11 in my front yard, but seems others can run a food, motel business, grant you it is a free business, but a business never the less in this neighbor.. What is amazing is the indifference of these people, so the place starts to look like downtown, just the status quo, they don't care. I saw a group sitting in the moved bench like it was nothing, thing was off center due to the front bricks, lovely sight it was, reminds me of Hampton and some of their bus stops, old chairs, $350 shopping carts stolen from the store, pile at the stop like garage for someone else to clean up after them. Good to see the city fixed the bench quickly will be interesting to see if it doesn't happen again. Sad to think if you put in a covered bus stop, it would look like crap within weeks..

The boy scouts or other civic minded groups would love to this kind of project. They do alot of projects in Hampton that the lesser departments just cant do.

Perhaps more benches could be placed along main st for the homeless to rest themselves during the day.

Maybe we could ship them to your neck or the woods, you will enjoy the nightly car breakins, broken booze bottles. And my favorite the "I can smell the booze 20 feet away on your breathe" and you are standing 5 feet away, "can you spare a dollar for food" panhandle. What is amazing is how overweight some of these are.

Making this city more pedestrian friendly should be a priority. Leave this open until the benches are placed thruout the city please.

The reported issue of a bench being damaged has been fixed the bench was repaired!!!

Surrounding citys use park benches in high traffic areas and in recreational settings. They fill the needs of the citizens in both areas.

They sit too much. Get a job!
