Description

For years the business owners and building management from the historic Henderson Carriage Building have sought repair/replacement of the sidewalk from the City of Cambridge. Now, because of complaints from neighbors that they had to now walk / trip on the deteriorating sections, because Elephant Walk restaurant introduced sidewalk seating, DPW came out in the Fall and put down a temporary patch. We were told that in the Spring they were going to give us an entire new sidewalk from Hadley Street to Russell Street. Well, that seems to have changed. DPW and the City of Cambridge have schemed to avoid this repair and now wants Elephant Walk restaurant to move their seating from the side of the building to the edge of the street. This new seating arrangement will now be situated over the most damaged part of the sidewalk.
We are now told that the temporary fix is the permanent fix.
I feel bad for Elephant Walk for they went through all the necessary protocol and permitting to have a space that was comfortable for their patrons. Now, the often speeding traffic on that particular section of Massachusetts Avenue will bring an adrenalin filled experience while dining.
