Description
Road only repaved ONCE in 30 years. Pot holes all over, no side curbs causing water from road to run straight into basements of some neighbors, one neighbor needs wall repaired that snow plows ruined, others drive way apron ruined by plows. The list goes on and on and we're being taxed to death! The Mayor would rather spend $85,000 on a street light study rather than pave badly needed roads in area.

They came buy and "patched" our street again last week. I complained to the street supervisor. The street department supervisor said, "I need to show up at the Council meeting to complain to the Mayor". LOL! Been there...done that! We're going to start calling this borough.. Ho "Patch" cong.

Street still hasn't been scheduled to be paved. I am going to start calling Hopatcong Ho "patch" cong because all we seem to do is "patch" things and hope the problem will go away. HIGHER taxes and LESS services. All the money going to salaries, benefits and pensions.

LOL....Mayor told me at recent Council Meeting there was NO grant money available from federal government to pave road. Since when is the federal governemnt responsible for paving borough roads? I thought that was what our real estate tax money was for. Instead it's going to salary raises, increased benefit costs, retirement costs and servicing the debt. This town is heading downhill. I am going to pull out my crystal ball and look into the future. Will the last taxpayer in Hopatcong turn out the lights.

LOL....storm last night washed some of the road away near my house. The rut is so deep some one placed an orange warning cone over it. I will try and post a picture later today of the size and depth of the hole. UNBELIEVEABLE!!!!

Hole big enough to flatten a tire or ruin a car's front end alignment. Tax dollars at work!

Here's one of the worst spots in the entire 6/10's of a mile stretch of Ithanell Road.

UPS, FED EX and USPS...stay away from this road.

Just found a 4" crater earlier this week on Ithanell Rd. This picture was taken in an area where a woman over 4th of July weekend broke her ankle while getting out of the car. I hope she sues the borough of Hopatcong for pain and suffering. Maybe then we'll get the road tarred and chipped.

Once again Mayor promised a road paving. Once again money evaporated.

Elia said in an email:
"We did allocate some funds in 2012 Budget for roads, any additional money from state would have helped. We’ll pave some roads for sure , but engineer will have to prioritize the streets given the final amount available after Budget approval."
LOL....give me a break!

Ithanell Rd.....some facts:
1. It's 6/10th's of a mile long.
2. You can't go more than a 1/10th of a mile without finding a "patch".
3. We pay some of the highest taxes in Hopatcong some as high as $40,000/yr.
4. Last year a woman broke her ankle getting out of her car after stepping on a curb that needed repair. She should have sued the borough. But she didn't.
5. The road hasn't been paved for 30 years although every year the Mayor tells me "we're on the list".
What do we need? An accident? A fatality? Just lets us know Mr. Elia because although we pay you $125,000/year I have yet to see exactly what a Financial Administrator does for a town. We already know what you left Wayne, NJ with while you were their Financial Administrator.

You still live in that town, you were the financial administrator for that town when it lost over a MILLION dollars in taxpayers money and now they lost $35 M of their tax base since last year. We don't have a $35M tax base in Hopatcong. But we'll losing over $1M every year in uncollected taxes. What are you doing about that? We just don't want the same to happen to our borough while you're in charge.
