There are many people who walk and cross there on a daily basis. A good positon of these people are elderly from Wesley nursing home. who cross the street there. There is a walking path that starts at that intersection and people are trying to cross safely. A few years ago, a man was killed there because of a man speeding up Clinton Street. He lived on Clinton Srteet, two houses up from that intersection. So, even though you said " seems a little much - there isn't that much traffic there", this stop sign is vital to everyones safety. There was a lot of people speeding up Clinton....from Van Dam street to Clement ave because there wasn't a stop sign. You wouldn't believe just how fast people were driving up and down Clinton. It was turning into a raceway. Putting a stop sign there was one of the best things this city has ever done for the safety of its people.

I drive down Clinton street daily and always seem to notice someone blowing thru the Clinton street stop sign. Police should take notice.

How someone can question the need for the stop signs. at the intersection of Clinton and Vermont.streets, is beyond me. Obviously this person is not from that neighborhood. If that person was from that neighbor hood or even familiar with the that part of town, they would have a better understanding. This area is a unique neighborhood. The demographics for this area is very unique. Besides the people who are lucky enough to live in a private home and call this area, their neighborhood, we also have Skidmore College, a block up the street. Skidmore has an average of 2,500 students. Skidmore has an entrance from Clinton Street which is heavily used by not only the staff and students but also the spectators that come to watch one of the many sporting events held there. There is also the Tang Museum on the grounds of Skidmore, which draws many visitors. A half block away from Skidmore is the Wesley Community which comprises of two highrise senior apartments, called Embury Apartments, 2 story apartments, called Woodlawn Apartments, A rehabilitation center called, Hathorn, and two long term care facilities called, Victoria and Springs. This large senior complex also contains two restaurants. .Within a block of this intersection there are two large facilities that employ and house many individuals. Just as much as the elderly like to take leisurely walks around the neighborhood, you have many young students who like to drive, most of which don't have many years of driving experience. These young adults appear to be in a hurry, going way to fast, and many of whom don't have time for stop signs. These students are not much different than most of us when we were their age. Many young drivers will push the limits, and see stop signs as merely a suggestion. The poor person crossing the street at the same time that as the person that sees the stop sign as being a suggestion, is in danger of becoming a speed bump. Of course it's not just new drivers that speed and ignore the stop sign. There are many students who do drive safely and obey the stop sign, however these students are not the ones that catch our attention. We are a small neighborhood that is home to many people, young and old. I don't believe the stop sign was put in place solely because there was so much traffic. I feel it was to get people to slow down and be more aware of people that are walking. Has the stop sign fixed the problem? No.. Has it made a difference? Absolutely. Ever since the sign was put in place, after the tragic death of a neighbor, not as many people are using Clinton St. as a speed strip. Most do stop, however there continues to be the ones that don't. These are the cars that are noticed, and are dangerous to the individuals walking, young and old. In case if you are wondering, YES there is a need for that stop sign. If the signs were put in place sooner, most likely we would still have our neighbor with us today. A small thing such as a stop sign, helps protect everyone, from the very young to the very old. Any proactive measure, to keep people safe from bodily injury or death, should never be considered "a little much".

I agree with the stop sign, but it is hard to see, and is unusual placement. When there's foliage, it can be impossible to see it. If the sign were more easily noticed, I think there would be higher compliance.
