Description

There is no safe way for pedestrians and bicyclists to navigate from Route 9 to Route 50 on curvy and narrow West Fenlon St. The upgrades planned for the Lincoln Ave/Union St area should include a sidewalk connecting the two and a pedestrian crossing on Route 50.

Sidewalks were proposed about 15 years ago but the consensus was: home owners did not want the responsibility of having to shovel the sidewalks.

That is too bad! I guess they'd rather hear screeching tires from almost accidents in front of their homes.

If there is foot traffic, it amazes me that it would be up to homeowners. No homeowner wants added responsibility, but the city has to make some tough decisions for the public good. I live around the corner from here and never NEVER walk down Fenlon because it's so dangerous.

The city owns a right-of- way alongside roads - I think it is 15 feet. Enough for a sidewalk. Public safety should not be up to homeowners, you are right, city does have to make some tough decisions for the public good.

The reality is that the property owners do not own the public right of way and must keep it clear of snow (trees, cars and fences). Code enforcement should be notified - this encroachment on "public way" walkways are enforceable. Forcing people into the street to walk puts the City at risk.
